Guest Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 By the way, you can't leave a dog too long locked up in a crate. For 8-week old puppies, or first-time crate users, keep them in there no longer than 2 hours except overnight. Then give at least one hour of play time and extra loving attention, before he goes back to his crate. When the puppy gets older, you can extend the crate time as long as he can hold his bladder. You will notice that after a while, the dog will seek out his crate on his own when he needs down-time. So, always keep his crate door open when he is not in it. Quote
Loving_Wife Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 By the way, you can't leave a dog too long locked up in a crate. QUOTE]Rule of thumb is one hour per one month of age. 8 week old puppies can only "hold it" for about 2 hours. My dogs get certian really nummy treats and they only get them in their crates. My dogs all love their crates. Not to say at first they did cause they didn't.I don't know if you can post links to video's. I cannot find the pictures but I made a video of Bo (my rott) that has several pictures of him in his crate from puppyhood on. If a mod could let me know whether I can or not I'll post the link Quote
havejoy Posted January 16, 2010 Author Report Posted January 16, 2010 I have the crates now and am excited for Monday to come. We won't be leaving this little one home at all I think because having just had surgery I'm afraid to. I'll put her in the crate for treat time and to give her petting time and to sleep but the rest of the time she'll be on the couch with me or in the recliner with my hubby. The lady at the rescue place let her sleep in her bed last night. Quote
havejoy Posted January 16, 2010 Author Report Posted January 16, 2010 I have good news and bad news. The good news is that we passed the inspection. The bad news is that the head lady from the rescue group has spent the last 2 nights sleeping with our little patient on her chest and now she wants to keep her until the real family happens. & Quote
