Since so many of us have PCOS I was wondering if you ladies had success at getting pregnant? My husband and I have be trying for two years and I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. I am getting ready to start my third round of clomid and have been taking the metformin for almost a month. What worked or didn't work for you guys?

I have not been diagnosed with PCOS, but have wondered if I have it. In my 30's I used Clomid, concieved twice with it, miscarried early with the first Clomid pregnancy and became pregnant again 3 months later (Clomid again). My son is now 20, soon to be 21 years old.

My friend got pregnant with PCOS on no drugs at all, accidentally. I know stories like that can be either encouraging or discouraging. By the way, she was in her late 30s when she got pg and had a healthy baby.

I really, really believe in going to an acupuncturist for infertility. I tried everything with Western docs and they got me pg through IVF, but never fixed my hormonal problems. Acupuncture reversed my premature ovarian failure that I am wondering could have been brought on by all the hormones that my IF doctors pumped into my system, mixed with my crazed stress and marital problems.

BTW, acupuncturists will work with your regular doctor and you don't necessarily have to replace your doc with Chinese medicine.

Thanks for the information! Honestly I would adopt before I did IVF only because of personal reasons. I am actually 5 weeks pregnant today! I found out on Monday and I am super excited!

I have been a Soulcysters.net member for 10 years, and there is a lot of good/excellent/offbeat advice there. I have to say, after 12 years on Metformin, and having done a few Clomid cycles, it never worked out for me.

Then again, I have an EXTREME CASE of PCOS. For example, I had a 70lb ovarian tumor removed this summer & haven't had a af since 1998.

Metformin works for only a handful of people I know. Clomid, the same. Vitex has been more successful from the experiences I have been privy to.

Also, don't quit the Metformin until 2nd trimester, I have heard/read more than a handful of cases where it helps prevent miscarriages in pcosers.

Good Luck!

In women with irregular menstruation, Clomid helps small and immature follicles grow to maturity (about 20 millimeters in diameter). Also, low estradiol level in a woman's blood correlates with an inadequately stimulated, small follicle. Although she may have enough hormones to produce an egg, but if her estradiol production is low (less than 100 pg/ml), she may not get ready to accept a fertilized egg for implantation. In such candidates, Clomid augments the stimulatory signals from the hypothalamus to the pituitary to the ovaries.

This fertility medication is also often effective in women with luteal phase defect (LPD). LPD causes a break in the natural ovulation process in women resulting in low production of the hormone progesterone in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.
