24 Therefore, thus saith the Lord God of Hosts: O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian; he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.

25 For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.

Zion

These verses are a plea to the people who will dwell in Zion in the future. The Zion spoken of by the Old Testament prophets was identified by the Prophet Joseph Smith as the whole of North and South America….The “Assyrians” in verse 24 would thus symbolize the Gentiles who were inhabiting that land and were ruling over the blood of Israel scattered among them or living under their rule. The plea is for the Israelites to rely upon the Lord. While they may have trials and tribulations, these will be short-lived and the promised blessings of Israel will be restored.

The whole of America is ion itself from north to south, and is described by the Prophets, who declare that it is the Zion where the mountain of the Lord should be, and that it should be in the center of the land.
