Okay, so I don't know if this is the right place for this, but we'll go with it, since it's sort of a "how do i" question.

How do your records get moved from one ward to another? When I moved to Edmonton, my cousin found out what ward i would be in (which happened to be his) and I went to an activity, and they already apparently had my records there within a week of me moving.

My mom moved almost a year ago, and before she was even living in her new place, her bishopric had been told where she was moving (still don't know how) and were knocking on her door to introduce themselves.

So, how do I find out if my records have been moved yet? I moved in November. I've been inactive for quite awhile, but I still like visiting teachers (and don't mind home teachers but being a single sister, have had issues with that in the past--they'd only have my uncle and his wife visit me....dunno why).

Anywho....any help? Anyone know? (I'm sure someone out there knows, you're smart peoples)

thanks in advance

and finding out who your ward clerk is.....? how?

Simplest method is to show up to church and ask somebody sitting on the stand, or start asking folks in the clerk's office after the meeting block. Alternatively you can try getting unto your ward's website from Stake and Ward Web Sites , mine lists the ward clerk in the leadership directory. However I think your records have to be attached to the unit to have access to its site so if your records aren't there it won't help you and if they are and you can access it you don't need to contact the clerk to have him request your records. Though having the leadership numbers (and ward directory in general) on hand can be useful.

Edit: LDS Maps can get you the Bishop's # if you can't think of anyone else to contact in the ward. Personally I recommend the showing up and asking around method particularly if you've been inactive.

i've tried the websites...which don't provide any info for me since i don't have my membership number. i wouldn't be opposed to showing up on sunday....now that i know what ward i'm in and when it meets, however i typically work until 3 on sundays....which is when church is just ending....i just didn't know if there was another way i hadn't thought of...

thanks for helping.

The ward clerk will be there for some time after the block as will the Bishop and one of his councilors. You probably already know that though... *shrug*

If you know what ward you would be in, look in the telephone book. It should list the meetinghouse. Call on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. Generally the clerks are there those nights too.

Ask for the membership clerk and when you get him on the phone, request that your records be transferred from ___________Ward, ________Stake. Also request Visiting Teachers and Home Teachers be assigned to you.

Also ask the clerk to get back to you with your membership #.

The easiest way is to find your new ward clerk, since he'll know (when you tell him) exactly where you came from. He should only need your name and DOB. If you records were already there, I'm guessing that your old ward clerk sent them in advance of your move, based on an address you may have given him.

Bug, go to the locate a building link at the church website. Then call the bishop. He'll then have the membership clerk request your records through the system. Wherever they are (old ward or at church offices) they will be found and sent to the ward where you now live.

You don't need your membership number for the building locator website. If you need help let me know.
