14 But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Phillistines towards the west; they shall spoil them of the east together; they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them.

15 And the Lord shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind he shall shake his hand over the river, and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dry shod.

Quotes for Discussion

United Israel and Judah “shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab” and Egypt

These verses have a double meaning. In addition to latter-day Israel having physical power over their enemies, some of these countries and cities often carry a symbolic meaning.

Assyria = World’s power

Moab = World’s pride (see also Isaiah 16:6)

Egypt = World’s glory and abundance

Damascus = World’s gods, idols of men

Jerusalem = Worldly or false piety

Babylon = World wickedness

Edom = Fallen world

The added symbolic meaning teaches that Israel and Judah in the last days will conquer or overcome worldly pride (Moab), fallen nature (Edom), and worldly glories and riches (Egypt).
