Plastic_Starlight Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 I was sitting in my Philosophy class the other day, when my teacher brought up comic book heroes and ethics. After a whole lot of quantifying, equivocating and arguing over who is better Old Blue Boy or "Bats" ,his final question of the day was: " Which is better, Doing good, or doing no wrong?" well? Quote
pam Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 I would say doing good. You could live your life living on that border of right and wrong...but what does that get you? We are all prone to mistakes and failures..but I would rather know that I've done a lot of good in my life that might have supported, comforted, uplifted someone, than to worry about some of the minor transgressions I might have done. Major transgressions of course are another story. Quote
john doe Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 Definitely doing good. Doing no wrong means you haven't settled on a way to go. Doing good means you have chosen your path. Now, if you 'do no wrong' while at the same time concentrate on 'doing good', then you really have something. Quote
FairChild Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 In the song, "I am a Child of God" the words were changed from what I must learn to what I must do. doing is very important. Quote
rameumptom Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 First off, Batman and Superman don't hold a candle to the Marvel Comics superheroes like Spiderman. Second, to do no wrong leaves doors open for others to do wrong. Edmund Burke warned that the only thing evil needs to prosper is for good men to do nothing. Doing no wrong is a passive non-action. Choosing to do good requires involvement. Remember, Spidey's Uncle Ben told him that with power comes responsibility. Because Peter Parker did no wrong, he allowed his uncle to die. Quote
