degree subject dilemma - need LDS perspective

OK many moons ago I went to university to study Archaeology/History the first year was inspired and Heavenly Father guided it, I misread a blessing and went back for my second year and it was a disaster, academic study without Heavenly Father's wisdom for me is empty and a waste of time. Then my illness took over and wiped my brain entirely for a few years, I am now sort of back on my feet, it took me a while to come to terms with not getting a degree but I do have a piece of paper that says I am majorly intelligent (my patriachal blessing) and as I was unable to work or study a degree was just a piece of paper.

The largest paragraph in my patriarchal blessing covers my career, mentions it will help many people come to terms with their life. I really want to go back and study astronmy/physics and Maths - bits of study over the years has proved I have a talent for maths and physics (I didn't at school) and I love just looking at beautifully written equations, segments of DNA etc guess I am a science girl. But don't want to go wrong again lol I have the opportunity to study part time astronmy from home on one of the best degree courses in the country and really don't know what to do

The first thing I thought of when I read that part about your career in your PB and helping people is some kind of therapist.

Thats a far cry from studying astronomy and physics but thats just me. Maybe you could MINOR in those things and MAJOR in psychology and go on to go therapy or something. Im not sure but thats just my take on it.

I would pray about the interpretation of my patriarchal blessing.

Just after I received my patriarchal blessing I felt understood what I should do; I saw what was meant for me. A few mistakes were made things didn’t go the way I thought Heavenly Father had for me and I lost track of my direction.

Almost ten years later, as a husband and father, I wrote to Church Headquarters and requested a copy of my patriarchal blessing. Funny how none of what I thought was there, really was.

I read it often now and each time something else stands out to be. It’s as if I understand more now and I see what could have been, and what I can do now, if I follow the Spirit.

Perhaps if you set it aside for a short period, pray for an broader understanding of its purpose you will know what you should do. Keep in mind that a patriarchal blessing is not a look into a crystal ball. It is a blessing given to you and now it is up to you to use those blessing to do the work or service our Father in Heaven needs from you.

been praying for nearly 17 years on subject guess its not time to know what. There isn't much in my patriachal blessing have never compared it with others but its a lot shorter in length than any others I have seen, also not much to misread lol but this is my biggest paragraph, it does say much prayer and meditation lol

D&C 9 tells us. Ponder it, come up with a decision, and then ask God if it is a good direction for you to go in.

Sometimes, God says a specific "yes" or "no". Other times, he doesn't really care, and allows us to be agents unto ourselves, to choose good. We have to listen to His guidance, but not be slothful servants in thinking he's going to tell us what to do in every situation.

If you can afford the time and money for an online program, take it to the Lord and ask him if he has any objections to it. If he hasn't, then go for it.
