bcguy Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 Well, this was a strange case of loosing our power...ALL OF IT, because I changed a outlet! We are upgrading our outlets from dingy yellow stained ones to nice white new ones. We had no power for two hours and it was erily silent. Not that its the first time but thought, why not do this more often? me and my wife spend a chunck of our time away from each other doing something on the tv, the computer or what not! No power means no distractions from each other. Anyone ever just "turn off everything" and spend time together with NO technoligy to interupt for a entire evening? BTW, the main circuit breaker at the meter head was tripped, and it was reset to give us power again. The new electrical power outlet did not have its bridge removed, causing over current usage. We use alot of power here. Thanks Quote
bcguy Posted April 25, 2010 Author Report Posted April 25, 2010 I wonder if people are so attached to technology, they don't even consider it a second though to "unplug" for a day. BTW, whats ironic about this idea, I one asked a teacher of 30 years, what did the smartest students in school have in common. He said that thay did not have TVs in the house and one student, did not have any computers in the house. Guess that media technoligy is possible the source of our wasteful ways if we spend to much vegging in front of the tv instead of studying :) Quote
dazed-and-confused Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 i love those quiet times. during the stormy season, we lose power a lot. Quote
Bini Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 Never lost power here before, except once due to some accidental mishap but we used to have "brown-outs" all the time in PI. Don't let the term "brown-outs" fool you because they were actually BLACK-OUTS that lasted for hours and hours and hours. Fortunately, we were some of the luckier ones and had a generator that powered our whole house but many others were left in darkness, without cool air, fridge, lighting, etc etc. Honestly, I don't miss those days too much. A side from that, hubby and I have sort of an allotted time frame of when I can mess around on the computer and he can watch sports or whatever. Then it's "our time". Quote
talisyn Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 We can go whole days and even a few weeks without turning the T.V. on. The internet, on the other hand.... Yeah, quiet is very nice. I remember the time after 9-11 when all the planes were grounded. While I wouldn't want something like that to happen again I have to say I got use to the quiet very fast Quote
Guest Alana Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 We went to Shasta Lake for a week during spring break and we got a cabin that didn't have a tv or phone. There was of course, electricity, but it was sooo nice to play cards and board games and just talk every night. Quote
Dravin Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 I grew up camping so I can appreciate getting away from the electronic hum of everyday life. Quote
