minkmop Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Mission paper time is coming dangerously close, and I'm a bit worried. Basically I have one question. How long do you need to be over an addiction to pornography/ masturbation to be worthy to serve a mission? I've been clean about a week now, which is really good for me. I was planning on starting my papers in about a month. I just want to know if I stay clean and spend a lot of time on my knees, if that can be enough. Quote
Backroads Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 These kinds of things are hard... and frankly, as with all addictions, you are always going to be in danger. If you stay clean and you pray, I think that should do it (after all, that is repentance). Has your bishop, if you've spoken to him, said anything about it? Quote
minkmop Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 I haven't talked to my bishop in my college ward about it. My father is my bishop back home, and he knows. Quote
Backroads Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 I would speak to your bishop in your college ward. He could give you some perspective. Quote
minkmop Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 Yeah. I guess I really should. Quote
beefche Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Trust me, you DO NOT want to get to the MTC or your mission without resolving anything like this. Please talk to your bishop and get it resolved now. Quote
minkmop Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 Oh I know that. I'm definitely not going to enter the MTC without this being resolved. I just wasn't sure whether to just wait for the Stake President interview. I'm not going to lie. Quote
Backroads Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 I wouldn't wait. And it's not about going on a mission or not. It's about resolving this with you. You don't want to carry this sort of thing around, and bishops can give great advice. Trust me. Quote
minkmop Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 Alright. Thanks guys. I'll set up an appointment. Quote
Dravin Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Oh I know that. I'm definitely not going to enter the MTC without this being resolved. I just wasn't sure whether to just wait for the Stake President interview. I'm not going to lie.My memory may be faulty but I remember having to talk to my Bishop and get his recommendation before I talked to the Stake President. If you are inclined to just wait until the moment of truth so to speak the Bishop would be the one to voice your concerns not the Stake President. Quote
minkmop Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 I apologize. Let me clarify. I meant I didn't know whether to wait for the mission interviews themselves. Quote
beefche Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 No, do not wait for the mission interviews. Set up an appt now with your bishop. Quote
