    Mormon Enigma

There is no RLDS church. They are named the Community of Christ and have been for 20 years or so.

    Fun family history stories

My family history is a little more modern. My dad was born and raised in Bulgaria. He hated being under Communist regime and longed to go to America so he could have freedom to worship. He and a couple of his cousins decided to run away together and make it to America. They were about 13 years old. Upon the time and place previously agreed, dad showed up but the others didn't. So, he took off alone. He crossed the Greek border (about a 5-7 mile walk) and was placed in a refuge camp. He lived in Greek refuge camps until he was able to get a sponsor for America. That took about 5 years. He said that if he had gone to Western Europe or Australia, he would have left sooner, but he wanted to go to America. He came to America and couldn't speak a word of English. His sponsor helped him find a room to rent and a job. So, he arrived in his new country on a Thursday and by Monday he was working and paying his own way.

April 2020 General Conference Discussion Thread

Good to see you, Carb. I felt the same as you regarding this moment from conference (I was so hoping to hear some Slavic singing). But, my feelings during this hymn was that we weren't singing so much about Joseph or our current prophet, but about our Prophet, our King, our Savior.

    Attending a Christian college

PC, this is true: no matter where you are, if you want x, you will find x. The people who want y, are aware of x, but they continue to choose y. While at BYU, I knew those who were engaging in activities that were inappropriate but I didn't hang out with them.

    Attending a Christian college

When I attended BYU, I first went as a non-member (we won't mention how long ago that was but I'll admit it was not in this century). At that time, even as a non-member, the tuition was cheaper than the Indiana University tuition. After I became a member, my tuition went down about 25% and my dad, who was not happy about my baptism, was at least a little gleeful about saving some money. PC, it's seems amazing to me that your daughter is old enough for college! In my head, your girls are still around 10 yrs old (even though I've never met them or know them in any way...just from your mention of them on here). Exciting times!

    The COVID thread

So, my company (large company with Southeast Asia offices) just banned all travel and stated that there was to be no face-to-face meetings--we are to conduct meetings via web. Interestingly enough, they are not banning visitors to one of our major offices (in KC, MO). But, they are requiring those visitors to complete a questionnaire. Anyway, as a result of the no meetings ban, our local work from home contingency (there are 6 of us total here) had to cancel our quarterly lunch. There are 3 of the 6 who live near each other--we decided to go to lunch together during the time we already carved out of our schedules for the previous quarterly lunch. It's not a "work" lunch...just 3 friends who work together going out for lunch.

Church has issued a statement on Covid-19

My dad was born and raised in Bulgaria (formerly communist). He remembers this happening but it was Stalin that provided the candy they prayed for.

    Return of a legend

Seriously, how has this not been discussed? It was an emotional day for Hoosiers.

    Return of a legend

I didn't recognize Coach Keady. They were playing the music from the movie "Hoosiers" when they introduced the coaches. LOL

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

I recognized that it was more of a memento rather than an award for his own service. I'm not into the EU to know the details you provided.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

I'm gonna jump in here to say a couple of things after watching this last installment of cra....uh, Rise of Skywalker. First, why?why?why? Are people really that desperate to see gay kissing that they have to have it so prominent in this movie? Ugh. I should be used to it being in every freaking thing put out by Hollywood, but I suppose I'm still naive. And I hope to see Dominic Monaghan in a Star Trek movie at some point so he can be a part of the trifecta of movies...LOTR, SW, ST. Thank you, @anatess2 for expressing some of my thoughts on ignoring her parents, Palpatine winning, among other issues. I did have a little rejoice moment to see Chewy get his medal, although I felt he deserved the ceremony with it.

    Necessary Thanksgiving Foods

Cracker Barrel has THE best pancakes I've ever had. Crispy edges, fluffy middle and full of flavor (before adding the butter and syrup). And for dinner, they have greens! My friends make fun of me because I'll often get 2 servings of their greens. Yum!

    Necessary Thanksgiving Foods

My husband has to work on Thanksgiving, so we are doing our own dinner the night before. It's just the 2 of us, so we decided that are musts are: Turkey (well, chicken in this case--we just can't deal with a whole turkey), stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, something green (green beans, this year), rolls, dessert (doing a sweet potato casserole, this year), and my husband needs cranberry sauce (I don't do that except as a jam for toast). I'm actually not big on desserts and I can't stand sweet things with my savory food. Hence, the sweet potato casserole is not next to my potatoes/gravy, but a dessert for us and my husband will enjoy his cranberry sauce with his food, while I'll save it for toast or a PBJ sandwich later.

    Free email provider?

Yep, I have 3 gmail and 2 yahoo. Used to have a hotmail until it got hacked. There is only 1 account that is my "home" account with my personal info. All others have fake name...Like my first name is "First" and last name is "Last." Or first name is "A" and last name is "Bacon" or something like that. I use several accounts just to sign up for websites. For example, to use Pinterest, you need to have an email account. I don't want to get blasted with stupid spam email so, I use one of my "fake" emails to sign up. That email account has thousands of unread messages since I don't go into consistently.

    Free email provider?

Why can't you just create another email account in gmail or yahoo? I have several email accounts. A couple are used simply to sign up for sites that I know is going to send me junk mail. When it asked for first/last name, I use something like "First" and "Last" (literally). That way, I'm not giving any actual information.

    Women and temples

I would recommend this sister attend the endowment session now. There are specific answers to her questions in the endowment now. Listen carefully to the words and notice the wording of the covenants. If there are still questions, then ask to speak to the temple president or matron to discuss. Further explanations on a public forum aren't appropriate, in my opinion.

    Third Hour forum get together

I really enjoyed meeting everyone. It's always good to put actual faces to names. One of the funny things, I still call JAG and pam by their screen names instead of their real names. JAG just looks like a JAG. And pam, well, she looks very gingery... So, here's beefche's stupid moment of her life. I booked my flight separate from my husband. When I booked my flight, I booked it to leave Aug 24. That meant I could attend the dinner. I enjoyed dinner, drove to my friend's house (where I was staying), got up the next morning. Took a nice walk along the mountains, showered, packed, left with my friend to return my rental car. On our way to the SLC airport, I tried to checkin on the app. But it said my flight was completed. Huh? I looked at my email confirmation and sure enough my flight was the 23rd! I completely missed my flight! I was dumbfounded as this is completely not like me. After talking to a very kind Delta customer service rep, she was able to get me a flight out this evening. It's the worst flight ever (leave at midnight get into Indy at 10 am), but she saved me $500+. Lesson learned: have my husband check our flights to verify date and time!!!!

    Third Hour forum get together

@pam I think my subconscious wanted to attend. I accidently booked my flight home on the 24th. So count me in for any dinner on the 23rd. Yay!

    Heart attacks are no fun

Not to be morbid, but, I have an email group set up and it's titled "Death." I've told my husband he is to use that to let others know about my death. Our own @pam is on that list. And @NeuroTypical some of our people on that other place are on the list too.
