Hi, I am a 55 year old woman who is seriously committed to an LDS member who has been married with children. I am wondering how this will affect our committment to each other once his divorce has been processed and we are free to marry? I understand (I am not a member but have Catholic background) that his children are sealed to him and his former wife and as I am just learning about the Mormon faith all I have right now are questions a belief in and love of God, desire to learn about LDS and a great love and respect for the man in my life. Thank you for your patience and for helping me in understanding this new life that has chosen me, but I would like to know how having his

1st family sealed to him will affect he and I both in life and death. :)

LDS believe in two types of marriages. One is a civil marriage which is to death do us part. The other is a temple marriage for time and all eternity. Unless he or his soon to be ex has their temple sealing undone they will be together in the afterlife. If you have a civil marriage with him it ends at death and you have no further tie in the afterlife. If you have a temple marriage also then you are tied to him along with anyone else such as his children and ex wife.

As far as how it effects you in life it is up to you how you allow it to effect you. The Temple Sealing will not have an Earthly effect if he is separated from his ex wife, unless someone makes it have one.

Hope this helped, welcome to the forum.
