SeanButler Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 Today was a beautiful day, so my friend and I decided to go fishing with my uncle. All day I reflected on when Jesus said, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Peter, James, and John were not kings, or rabbis, but simple fishermen. In Jesus the Christ, a wonderful book by James E. Talmage, he points out that "theretofore they had caught fish, and the fate of the fish was death; thereafter they were to draw men - to a life eternal." What comes to your mind, when you think about those precious words? Quote
Matthew0059 Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 When I think about the similarities/differences between the professions of fishermen and apostles (fishers of men), I think of the remarkable similarity between the temporal and the spiritual, and the key differences between similar actions inside the telestial, terrestrial, and celestial realms. When I think of the role of the holy apostleship, I am grateful that there are men that the LORD prepares to sacrifice all that is required to preach the Gospel of salvation to mankind. I love this phrase! Thank you for sharing. Quote
pam Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 There's a couple of things I think about. I think about the Apostles who give up careers etc to devote service to the Lord full time. Most for the rest of their lives. But I also think that we can all be fishers of men. By following the Savior, being an example and sharing our testimony with others. Quote
