“Some are willing to set aside the precious gospel truths restored by Joseph Smith because they get diverted on some historical issue or some scientific hypothesis not central to their exaltation, and in so doing they trade their spiritual birthright for a mess of pottage. They exchange the absolute certainty of the Restoration for a doubt, and in that process they fall into the trap of losing faith in the many things they do know because of a few things they do not know.”

Tad R. Callister, “Joseph Smith—Prophet of the Restoration,” Ensign, Nov. 2009, 37

It makes me think that Satanis so cunning! In a moment of weakness he knows just what little bit of information or action will lead us down a slippery slope. And speaking from expeirence its usually when you are tired or depressed or neglectful of your studies that he slithers up to push you over the edge. I pray for all of us that we keep watch for the adversary he is looking and we must be vigilant.

For some reason I just got this quote today. I find it apropos to my situation because I tend to read a lot of the history of the Church and Joseph Smith's life. Not that I ever thought he was perfect, but I'm certainly finding out that he was not. Yet, there are so many good and admirable things about him that it is impossible to let a few human failings, committed over a hundred years ago, damage my estimation of him or of the church he built.
