Traveler Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 Nope. I don't. Just like I don't care if people in RS gossip about me or anybody else. I just care that they may end up hurting somebody - including me - by their off-putting remarks or attitudes or that they may not be holding on to the iron rod like we are all adviced to do.Now, of course the jeans and shoes comment I made is just a hypothetical. I've not heard anybody in our ward say anything about my jeans nor my shoes. But, I have heard somebody in our ward pass by a new BMW car parked in the church parking lot and make a comment, "somebody's having a mid-life crisis". Now, we were all leaving the church... for all she knows, the owner of the car is the guy walking right behind her.Isn't that the great challenge, though? How to care for the direction others are headed, loving others as we are commanded, without being judgemental about it? sorry to butt into your conversation - but it reminded me of two roommates in college. One (Dave) was very wealthy and loved to through money at everything he could. The other (Steve) was from a very conservative middle class family that could not spend money even on himself. Both were and still are very good guys. Dave loved to meet a girl having boy problems and would send a dozen long stem red roses to her a note, "I think you are beautiful" signed a shy secret admirer. Steve pinched every penny but had the bad luck of becoming my brother-in-law because his sister was (and still is) drop dead gorgeous. Anyway at a very young age Steve became very successful and was also called as a bishop. Because I had a sports car in college I taught him the enjoyment such a toy could bring. Because Steve was conservative he lived in a very humble community and small town but because he worked hard he thus had a truck load of money and he bought a Porsche (much better than my TR3). Anyway the Porsche only lasted to the first Sunday he drove it to church. My point in this post - we should not judge others. Not if they have an elevator in their garage for their expensive cars and wear designer clothing or if they are missing teeth and live in a trailer park. Now - I was about to say the one exception is if they drive like a idiot but then I remembered a while back one of Utah's worse drivers cut me off in traffic and almost caused an accident - I had a mind to catch the fool and symbolically indicate my displeasure. I had a most difficult catching the car because it was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. When I finely caught up to the car I went to make my symbolism known - low and behold - it was my Stake President. So I just waved and smiled. Yah, I know, I am a hypocrite. The Traveler Quote
skalenfehl Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 Yikes, Traveler, that must have been awkward. Maybe he was on his way to the hospital for an emergency? Quote
Guest Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 My father-in-law is in the Stake Presidency and he drives like this! It's like he is always in a hurry to get somewhere. You know like when there's a line of traffic exiting the freeway, he's be the guy who would go to the front of the line and stick the front of his car between two cars while his car is spread across the right lane and the exit lane...
