I just newly converted to being a mormon, my father was a mormon but my mother would not let me convert until i was 18. Any advice on how to tell my friends and family?

Tell them openly and honestly.

If they like or dislike your choice, accept it, love them even the more, and continue to be faithful to your baptismal covenant.

Welcome! That sounds difficult, but I imagine the sooner its out in the open the sooner that those opposed to it can come to accept it.. no idea on how long that will be tho.

If i were in that situation i'd think i'd explain along the lines of, "God has lead me in this direction, so this is where i need to be" sort of explanation.
