Canuckistani Posted November 7, 2012 Report Posted November 7, 2012 A simple answer I could give is wanting to be closer to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. But there's more to it then that. When I started looking into the church, I was amazed at how family oriented it is and how wonderful and kind Latter-day Saints are. I was touched when two Latter-day Saint missionaries came to my door. They were kind, warm in their greetings, and really just nice to be around. What touched me the most was when they gave me the Book of Mormon. One night I started reading the Book of Mormon, and honestly, I couldn't put it down, because I knew it was the word of God, I knew that it was real, and I believe Joseph Smith was the first prophet. Sadly though, my father told me the LDS church was a cult, and got rid of my Book of Mormon (I have no idea where it is). But you know what, that didn't stop me from believing. It made me stronger in my belief that the church is the true church. Admittedly, there were a few times that I felt like giving up, but, me being as stubborn as I am, I persisted. I don't believe I'll be baptized or attend a service anytime soon (because of my parents), but I'll always believe, and I am going to try my best to be a Latter-day Saint in all but name. So brothers and sisters, I hope to join you soon! I am so looking forward to being baptized in a couple years, but it'll be worth the wait! Jody Quote
Guest SquidMom Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 Wow. That is so great! If you have a reading tablet, you can download the Book of Mormon and read it on the sly. Use the internet, talk to the missionaries, when you can. Learn the most that you can and maybe you can help your parents understand the truth- That Mormonism is Christianity, not a bunch of crazy cultists. Be patient, your parents only want what they believe is best for you. Over time, once they know you've done your homework and are sure you really know what you're doing, maybe they can come to terms with it.Take lots of time to ponder, and pray. As a minor, unfortunately, your parents CAN tell you what to do. (But not what to believe.) Good luck! Quote

It would have been great to be baptized though, since President Monson lowered the missionary age. I always knew that the Mormon church was never a cult. Not even close. My dad's excuse is that they have missionaries going door-to-door. I told him that in Matthew 28:19 that we're encouraged to spread the gospel. But of course, he's still stuck in the mainstream mindset. It's very tough to get anything across to him. I see myself getting baptized after or during college. So about 2-4 years I'll have to wait. Unless, of course, my parents approve of me joining. To be honest, I really don't get all this cult talk or bashing of the Mormon church. It's really just pointless and I find it very, very upsetting that Mormons are being bashed. There's no basis for it. I've almost cried because of the hatred I hear. I really wish it would stop. But thankfully Mitt Romney has helped in shedding new light on the church, and hopefully the church experiences better understanding from fellow Christians. Quote
Guest SquidMom Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 Satan uses all hs influence to denounce the Mormon faith, because he is afraid. He knows the power of God's truth against him. Quote
Anddenex Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 Don't ever give up on that hope. Continue faithful. There is a story within our Church of a man from Italy who easily waited over 40 years to be baptized. It is a great testimony of the reality of this as the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. EDIT: I am not saying or implying is should take you this long. But be faithful to the witness the Lord has given you. Quote

I was a little concerned that promoting doing this against his parents wishes was a bit inappropriate. Quote
