norah63 Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 What should or does the word pledge mean to a christian? It is used so careless these days, as are most words. To me words have meanings, and to give your pledge would be saying that you are to be trusted. Quote
beefche Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 I was just talking to my husband last night about this topic. I think the words, pledge, vow, committment, covenant, have lost all meaning to too many people, including Christians. We don't respect what it means to be truly committed to someone/something. It's basically defined as committed until I get tired of it, or it doesn't fulfill me anymore, or it requires too much sacrifice from me. As always, Jesus is the perfect example of what it means to pledge, vow, commit, covenant and be true to that. He didn't give up when his friends and family desereted Him. He didn't give up when He was judged unfairly, beaten, even threatened and eventually killed. Quote
