regarding the Song of Soloman

The kids in my daughters seminary class was told that The Song of Soloman was not inspired. Is this true? I thought all books of the bibles were inspired writiings.

Song of Solomon

Sometimes called Canticles (as in Latin) or Song of Songs (as in Hebrew). Whether Solomon is actually the author is doubtful. The composition has many beautiful phrases and lyrical prose, often quoted in nonreligious literature. The JST states that “the Songs of Solomon are not inspired writings.” Both Jews and Christians have at times been reluctant to accept it into the canon of scripture because of its romantic content but have permitted it on the basis of its being an allegory of God’s love for Israel and of the Church.

Not to get too Clintonesque, but it depends on how you define "inspired". I consider SoS "inspired" in the same way I consider a work of Shakespeare or Milton "inspired". I do not, however, consider it scripture or a significant source of guidance in my life; its placement in the Bible notwithstanding.

For those well acquainted with Gematria and the four levels of meaning as taught in Kabbalah, there is a lot going on in Song of Solomon. Mystics speak of their relationship with God in a very similar manner.

Song of Solomon is a beautiful, wonderful poem between husband and wife.

Frankly, since it doesn't give commandments or tell us how to live our lives beyond its tacit acceptance of oral sex and the physical longing between husband and wife when they're parted, I don't think it's necessary to truly understand for our salvation.

Discussing Song of Solomon in-depth can really embarass some people, though.

did u know that king Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concabines.ok i know Ididnt spell it right we need spell check in here lol.His first wife was an Egyptian princess so what I learned from this which shocked me, is that their is no pure line, or is there??

Just because it isn't inspired of God, does not mean there is no value to it. It is a great piece of ancient prose.
