aruth5000 Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 My son was put on thyroid medication for his Hypothyroidism. He can't eat for three hours before taking it and one hour after taking it. He usually eats every 3 hours during the day and about once during the night. So, the three hour break before is easy in the morning but it seems like if i wake him up to take the medicine he wants to eat right after he gets them and doesn't go back to sleep. Hoping he gets used to this morning routine.... Any advice to make it easier on him??? Quote
Palerider Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 Sorry.....not much help here. One of my daughters in her 20's has same issue. I am not sure how she does it. Quote
applepansy Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 Just do the best you can. Explain the dilemma to his doctor. Then follow his advice to the best of your ability.However.....I'm on hypothyroid meds and have done a lot of research about when to take them. I've heard first thing in the morning, after eating, before eating, before bed. You name it every doctor has a different opinion. My sister (RN and also hypo) said, just take it the same way every day. With that in mind and if Emerson was mine I would give it to him before he eats and be done with it. Thyroid is a hormone. The most important part is that he gets it and in the same way every time. Quote
