Dallin H. Oaks - Saturday p.m. Session

Jesus gave his disciples one final commandment.  “Love one another as I have loved you.”

Jesus also taught to love your enemies.

Jesus Christ’s life was a legacy of love.

We must live amongst those that do not share our beliefs.

We are to live in the world but not be of the world.

The Savior taught that if we love Him we shall keep his commandments.

The devil is the father of contention.

The Savior forbad contention among everyone.  Not just those following the commandments.

As we seek to be meek and avoid contention we must not dilute our standards.

There is no middle ground.

“Loving kindness is required, but a follower of Christ, just like the master will be firm in the truth.”

We live among some that don’t believe in marriage. Some believe in not having children.

Many have the challenge of living with a non believing spouse.

We should teach the truth in our homes as thoroughly as we understand it.

We should all follow the gospel discourse to love our neighbors and avoid contention.

Conversations on controversial topics should not be contentious.

We are encouraged to follow the Savior’s golden rule.

We should practice civility with our enemies.

The commandment to love others crosses all religious and cultural lines.

Differences are inevitable.

We can show loving kindness and still hold firm to the truth.

“Kindness is powerful especially in a family setting.”

In life we must life with differences.

We need to love our neighbors of different cultures and beliefs.
