Russell M. Nelson - Sunday a.m. Session

Do you and I really understand what it means to sustain the Prophet?

How do we really sustain a Prophet?

It is an important duty to sustain the leaders of the church.

If the restoration did nothing else, it stopped the age old myth that the Lord had stopped talking to those on the earth.

We honor each man that has been the President of the Church.

All leaders in the Lord’s church are called by proper authority.

No prophet has ever been elected.

We do not vote on church leaders on any level. We do have the privilege of sustaining them.

The living Lord leads His living church.

We sustained 15 men as prophets of God.

The calling of 15 men provides safety for the church.  Decisions must be unanimous.

“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

The church today has been organized by the Lord himself.

Counterbalances and safeguards abound so that not one man can lead the church astray.

When the prophet is not able to fulfill his duties, his counselors carry on the day to day tasks.  Any big decisions are done through the first presidency and the quorum of the twelve.

Age eventually takes its toll on all of us.

Despite any health challenges that might come to us, despite any weaknesses that might come to body and mind, we serve to the best of our ability.
