Elphaba Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 Tom Delay Money Quote: "If you think legal abortion doesn’t affect you, I contend it affects you in immigration. If we had those 40 million children that were killed over the last 30 years, we wouldn’t need illegal immigrants to fill the jobs that they are doing. Think about it." My interpretation: The vast majority of women who get abortions are poor. Additionally, the vast majority of jobs the illegal immigrants take barely pay minimum wage. Therefore, if these 40 million children had not been aborted, they would be filling the jobs that barely pay minimum wage. Think about it. Elphaba Quote

Elphaba Posted July 29, 2007 Author Report Posted July 29, 2007 You should read chapter 4, of Steven Levitt's "Freakonomics".. I think you would like it.Oh, I do love it, and am astonished more people don't see how it makes perfect sense.I was hoping, and still do, that a reputable academic institution will conduct a research project to determine the validity of Levitt's hypothesis. Then I think there should be a push to introduce the data to every legislator involved in making laws regarding abortion. However, I am a realist. What to me was the obvious was soundly rejected by those in power because of so-called morality. This makes no sense to me. It is so important to get these babies born, they'll murder doctors who perform abortions. But once they are born, the pro-life groups wash their hands of any responsibility to the child, even when the mother is not a fit parent, and 20 years later the crime rate will rise again.I find Tom Delay's premise that "had none of the fetuses been aborted there would be no need for illegal immigrants" to be the height of arrogance and elitism. But then, he's demonstrated his odious lack of compassion for the working poor before, via his support of a corrupt sweatshop in Saipan. The man is heinous.Loved Freakanomics.Elphaba Quote
