tiancum Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 Actually, African Americans now prefer to be called BLACK again. I agree with prison Chap, call people what they ask to be called. Honestly, i love the fact that we can say stupid and foolish things here in the USA. I love the fact that there are those that think that we never landed on the moon, Adam and eve are aliens, and there is a 300 mile gaping hole in the earth right above greenland. I even love the fact that we can be racist, sexist, SAtanist... or what ever "ist" is coming down the pike. I love the fact that I haev the choice NOT do be any of the above also. Quote
Gabelma Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 What do most Americans do when they are traveling to a foreign country? #1: Get permission to enter the country legally. #2: Buy a foreign language translation dictionary. Take a foreign language class at the community college. Or buy a foreign language instruction package at the book store (or online).#3: Obtain a guideline of the laws for the country where they will be traveling. #4: Study the currency exchange values and be prepared to pay for their expenses.#5: Be prepared to eat foreign food and do not expect an American Grocery Market on every corner.#6: Respect the foreign government policies and when you have enough politely leave. We are not asking anyone to do anything that we do not expect of ourselves. This quite frankly is not true, just like many British Tourists in Spain, Greece etc do not make very good ambassadors, American Tourists in Britain often behave apallingly they do however tip very well. I have worked in the tourist industry and quite frankly problems nearly always started with an American pushing in, or using inappropriate language - the phrase fanny pack does not go down well here. They abuse the speed limit etc And we do have illegal American Immigrants. Just as you have plenty of Brits with no Green Card. Not to mention the ones that ask daft questions like 'whydid you build Windsor Castle so close to Heathrow Airport'I know many Americans are great but because the bad ones tend to be hyper loud you can't miss em.-Charley Quote
Annabelli Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 July 7, 2005 (London Terrorist Bombings) Our community and state had over 40 students in London on July 7, 2005. They were standing on the sidewalks waiting for their buses. Of course they were all injuried. 18 had severe injuries and were hospitalized for 3 to 4 months before they could be transported home. The British took very good care of our children. We could not book flights to Europe for a couple of weeks. I still have a bookmark for the directions from Heathrow Airport & London International to Royal London Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington. Many of the students were treated on the street by the British Red Cross and went back to their hotel. We, Americans, were very humbled by this experience. One of my closest friends was scrambling to get a passport. She said that she was met at the airport by the Red Cross along with several other parents. Quote
