NeuroTypical
Anyone know about the online virtual world Second Life? I've never played it. Apparently there's a server named Adam-ondi-Ahman full of LDS players and content. And, apparently, from the pictures I found today in my Facebook feed, they were showing General Conference in the online version of the tabernacle. I thought it was interesting that folks create an online version of themselves and walk (or fly) into a virtual tabernacle and watch GC. Guest
I heard of it a long time ago. In fact I remember an episode of The Office where Dwight Schrute had a Second Life character that was an office manager. Flying into the conference center as your online alter ego is all at once fascinating, cool, and weird.
dahlia
I don't think Second Life took off the way people thought it would. I have a friend who won an academic award for her work on Second Life (social / information exchange aspect, not computing). I used to see different events in my field that took place in Second LIfe; I don't see them anymore and don't know anyone who still has an account. Guest MormonGator
I get why people like Second Life, but I personally have a fundamental problem with the concept. When I play video games-and I do, quite often-I want to escape into a fantasy world, not live in a world like the one I live in now. To be clear-there is nothing at all wrong with Second Life. It's a wonderful way to escape from reality. In my personal, subjective view-I'd rather get my video game entertainment doing something else.
