askandanswer Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) From the introduction to Sectio n138 In his opening address at the eighty-ninth Semiannual General Conference of the Church, on October 4, 1918, President Smith declared that he had received several divine communications during the previous months. One of these, concerning the Savior's visit to the spirits of the dead while his body was in the tomb, he had received the previous day. Does the church have a record of, or has it been made known, what the other visions are that President Smith received in the months preceding the October 1918 General Conference? I note that in the October 1918 General Conference, President Smith stated: I will not, I dare not, attempt to enter upon many things that are resting upon my mind this morning, and I shall postpone until some future time, the Lord being willing, my attempt to tell you some of the things that are in my mind, and that dwell in my heart. I have not lived alone these five months. I have dwelt in the spirit of prayer, of supplication, of faith and of determination; and I have had my communication with the Spirit of the Lord continuously; So it seems that he did not want to say at that time what was resting on his mind, but that he had an intention to do so some time in the future. However, given that he died shortly after the conference, I'm not sure if he ever did tell anyone, or keep a record, of what those visions were. Edspringer Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) Well, as you quoted form his own words, he didn't dare to mention the things that were resting upon HIS mind, which possibily means he hadn't told anyone what he had received as revealation. We could consider the fact that he received some revelations that couldn't come to light because of men's faith. I remember that the brother of Jared, Moses, Nephi and other prophets received many great revelations and were commanded not to reveal them at that time. Maybe President Smith, as he was near his death, received more revelations concerning what was expecting him in the other side (maybe the organization in the spirit world, the way people live and interact there, the characteristics of the paradise and the prision, etc.). We don't know much. Based on his own words, I don't think the Church has registrated what President Smith had been given, besides section 138. I think he took those other revelations to his grave with him. Edited April 19, 2016 by Edspringer misspelled words Quote
