Dr T Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Today is my son's first soccer game of the season. The kids will be able to use the skills they've learned and have a great time playing. I'll let you all know how it goes. Quote

Dr T Posted September 7, 2007 Author Report Posted September 7, 2007 We had a great time! Nobody is keeping score... it was 5 to 1 and so far we are undefeated! (lol). The team had great ball movement, shots on goal, passing, defense and talked a lot to each other. A parent from the other team came up and said, "Coach, what did you do, hop your team up on steroids?" The team was awesome! It was a really fun game. :) Quote
shanstress70 Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 That sounds like fun... does you son enjoy it? How old is he? We're trying to decide what activities to get my son involved in. He'll be 5 next month. Right now it's between t-ball, soccer, kung-fu. Definitely needs something to channel all that energy! Quote
pushka Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Great to hear you all had such a good time Doc.! :) Quote

Elphaba Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 Thank you Push. Shan, the son that I coach is 7. We have a 5 year old that plays soccer too. They both love it.My son was also 5 when he played soccer and he loved it. I, on the other hand, had a real problem with it because of the parents and the way they would yell at this children! Especially the coach. They would scream at them to "Quit acting like girls," "You better score," "You idiot, how could you have missed that?," etc.,One day on the way home from a game, thinking my son would be proud of his mom because she never yelled at him, he set me straight! "Mom, I want you to yell at me! I feel stupid 'cuz I'm the only kid out there who never gets yelled at!" I swear, I never could figure out parenting. And I still couldn't make myself yell mean things at him! He was five years old for goodness' sake! So I would shout "Brian! Hey, Brian!" Oh Brian. . . BRIAN!" Brian. Brian. Brian. That was it. I just kept yelling "Brian," for the next 45 minutes. What else could I do?Elphaba Quote
Dr T Posted September 8, 2007 Author Report Posted September 8, 2007 I pump up the kids (on both teams). When I see something done well, I let them know. I've even written down a comment to each player on what I noticed during our game. I'll do that throughout the season and give it to them at the end. I think they will like that. :) Quote

You sound just like me!But if they're like my son, you're gonna have to yell at them. Go Team! Elphie Quote
Alaskagain Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 You are so thoughtful, Dr. T! Kudos! Quote
Dr T Posted February 26, 2008 Author Report Posted February 26, 2008 I just found this. The season this thread was about ended with our "Green Monsters" undefeated! We don't keep score but they never lost a game-the whole season. I better stop coaching-you know "Go out on top" Quote
