JohnsonJones Posted September 24, 2018 Report Posted September 24, 2018 I was in church today and was able to go to the Elder's quorum. While I sat there it suddenly dawned on me the great Wisdom at us trying to convince the World to call us The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When we think of the modern world and those around us we see that a majority of those who we live among know who we are. They refer to us as Mormon. It is likely that this current generation will always know us as Mormons. Why, then, would we make this change? The internet is prevalent. It has spread to almost every corner of the World. There are people (I think it is estimated at over a Billion) that do not have access to the internet, and some who have no regular access. However, that is changing. It has changed a LOT in the past decade and continues to change. Even in remote areas of the Arabian peninsula and in Africa, many have access to the internet. I would say a great majority of people in the world who are NOT Christian have not had much exposure to Christianity OR to Mormons. That does NOT mean they are not curious. There will be many that look up this religion called Christianity and who is Jesus Christ. Do a google search on those terms, what comes up? In China, where censorship is still in sway, and many things people would find are hidden, having the Church in good standing with the government is a terrific thing. We uphold the law, we respect those who are in the government and respect their choices and decisions. We try to show that we are a people that respect the government of a nation. When people in China look up Christianity, what will they see. They are not going to know this term of Mormon. It will be more likely that they have heard of Christianity and/or who Jesus Christ was. By going by the Name of the Church and hopefully having others see it as such, it will also announce that we worship the Lord. When people who have not heard about the Lord or the church look up such terms, and if other nations know we are loyal citizens and impress others to be such, they will be more likely to let our information be known there as well. Thus, when people look up these terms, they will have a greater chance to be exposed to the Gospel. This is the thought that came to me today as I sat in on that Priesthood meeting, and found that this could be one reason (and there are probably many more) that we are trying now to follow the Prophet and his telling us to go by the Name of the Church which is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
