Most Democrats/socialist politicians don't really believe in the policies they publicly espouse. They just want good window dressing to keep their power positions. But AOC really DOES believe in more "power to the people." No, she's not perfect at it. No, she's not a completely honest person. And, NO, she sure as heck ain't a genius. But she does want to give people some power. Power to do what? Well, some people are misguided. Most Republican politicians also don't really believe in free market principles. And they don't really believe in smaller government. And many of them don't even claim to. But Ted Cruz really DOES believe in reigning in the power of government over the people. And he really believes in reducing the benefits to those in power. Given this, as confounded as we are that these two found common ground, we have to recognize that it is perfectly in line with what each of them has stood for since they've been in the public eye. NightSG Posted May 31, 2019 Report Posted May 31, 2019 While we're at it, can we ban lawyers from becoming lawmakers? That's like giving auto body guys diplomatic immunity and demolition derby cars. Stop letting lawyers write laws and you remove the incentive to make them so ridiculously worded that even parking ordinances need professional interpretation. Quote

anatess2 Posted May 31, 2019 Report Posted May 31, 2019 (edited) They may have found something they agree on but their motivations are ENTIRELY different. Ted Cruz’ ideology is what you portrayed above. One of the reasons I did not support him in the primaries (I was rooting for Carson then Trump) is he is too much of an ideologue who will sacrifice practicality on its altar. On this issue, though, Ted and I are in agreement. AOC is just the puppet. Her handlers are just as much ideologues as Cruz. But their position on lobbying is not based on that ideology. They are currently running on a populist agenda because they’re trying to gain power in the Democratic Party. The minute the big monied corporatists decide to stop backing the Pelosis Feinsteins Bidens etal and start pouring money into their campaigns I will bet their anti lobbying stance will evaporate faster than alcohol. Their Socialist agenda pretty much scream big government... Edited May 31, 2019 by anatess2 Quote
