Apparently today is the National Day of Prayer.

http://www.nationaldayofprayer.org/

Early this morning I went to an interfaith prayer service. Unlike the interfaith group I started another thread on, this one allowed Mormons to pray.

It was organized by the interfaith council... Kicked off by a Catholic (who asked people at random to stand up and say what faith they were from. The first guy he called on said "I was a Catholic for 38 years, now I am a Mormon."), conducted by a guy from The Crystal Cathedral, opening prayer by a Lutheran minister, a short talk given by a Jewish Rabbi, a Muslim sang a prayer from the Holy Book and translated it into English, a short talk by a LDS Stake President, three songs by the LDS Primary choir, a solo by a Christian singer, the closing prayer by a Catholic Priest.

The main speaker was Ed Smart who shared the power of prayer in their family's ordeal. His whole family was there, apparently including Elizabeth but I didn't see her, maybe only the back of her head, which is more than any of you so that makes me boss for a day.

Nice service. It was held at a local Stake Center, hundreds and hundreds of all faiths in attendance, we sat at tables in the Cultural Hall and ate breakfast. The had two stations where they served coffee and tea. Imagine that.

This really surprises me. Usually the church has been steadfast about sticking to their own rules. I think it's a nice gesture as many protestant churches serve coffee after services and their members would probably feel more comfortable in our church if the breakfast included it.

I read this in a Sunstone cartoon today (not an exact quote)...

I think I understand why we're not supposed to drink coffee.

No alcohol, no smoking, no sex.

Why would we want to stay awake?

That's like the Nazarenes who don't believe in pre-marital sex because it might lead to dancing.

Not just that, but also Mariachi's. Fancy that.

You can see it in the local section of www.ocregister.com

Elizabeth now looks more like she did immediately prior to the ordeal than immediately after.

Heck, if there was a coffee hour just after Sunday School, prior to Sacrament meeting (or is it the other way round? hmmmm) I might be lured into church! LOL

It would help keep the congregation a bit more alert during those long droning talks that re-hash the same old same old. heh heh
