GayLDS Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Maybe I'm the only one () who has trouble keeping the spirit during the week, while working or running errands. Maybe not. I thought I'd list things I do to keep a positive attitude in general. I'm also looking for other ideas so that my 'idle hands' won't be a problem . 1) I have an ipod that I've downloaded music and talks onto. I constantly have this playing in my ear, regardless of what I'm doing. Since my job is pretty flexible it isn't a problem. I like listening to podcasts most of all. 2) I try to meditate once a day to help focus. My list use to include things like frequent prayer, and carrying seminary stuff around for memorizing. But I'm afraid that as I get older my memory is faulty. Not a big list, so you can tell I have a lot of problems :) ----- As an after thought, since I mentioned that I love podcasts, I'll include a couple suggestions to good podcasts. New BYU Speeches -speeches.byu.edu/rss/podcast2.xml BYU Rcent Talks byub.org/BYU_Devotionals.rss LDS Voices -feeds.feedburner.com/ldsvoices LDS Voices: Words of the Prophets -www.ldsvoices.com/podcast-prophets.php Whit's Favorite LDS talks. -www.mormoncast.com/podcast/whit.rss Classic Speeches speeches.byu.edu/rss/podcast1.xml You can also search the iTunes store (if you use iTunes) for the Book of Mormon Roundtable Discussions, as well as the PoGP, D&C, NT and OT roundtable discussions. They work well when your studying each particular book of scripture. Also some of you might know who Bob Lonsberry is. He's a host on one of the SLC radio stations. On sunday he hosts a show called 'Lonsberry Weekend' or something to that effect. His show is centerd on LDS beliefs. He's quite a guy. He's like one part Bishop, One part Big Brother and One part Gomer Pyle USMC. -www.knrs.com/podcast/Bob_Lonsberry.xml I hope some of my suggestions help people, and I look forward to reading others' replies. rusure Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 There is no doubt it's harder to keep the spirit during the week because we're out in the telestial world. That's why it's important to keep our homes more reserved from the world, attend church (which is like the terrestrial kingdom), and attempt the temple (like the celestial kingdom). It's important to do the small and simple things we've been commanded to do -- family and individual prayer and scripture study daily, family home evening, and attending all our meetings, offering service, attending the temple, etc. We have to strive to keep ourselves unspotted from the world and teach our children in that vein (if we have children). It really is "that simple" because these things invite the spirit into our lives and homes. Unfortunately we tend to look for a whizzy gimmick so that when someone says look to the serpent and be healed, we're like, "yeah, right" and perish instead of just doing that simple thing. Quote
MichaelPAGuy Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 Those are very good things to do. I also find myself humming tunes alot during the say and when I'm at work while on break or lunch I'll read the Ensign or Book of Mormon. I do get alot of odd looks and comments though doing this. Gwen Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 i find kids help me remember what i should be doing. a) they catch me not doing what i've taught them and then question me on it. lol that's fun to explain. or b) they make me want to lose my religion and i have to stop and remind myself who i am. lol Quote

MormonMama Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 I find that if I forget to read my scriptures one day, I have a harder time keeping the spirit throughout that day. I try to make sure I read at least a few verses each day. I also try to read at least one Ensign article each day, listen to Christian music at some point, and definitely pray daily. My problem is I'm terribly forgetful, so I can easily go through a whole day and not realize until after I'm already in bed that I never read my scriptures or didn't pray that day or whatever. Quote
