Holly3278 Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Hi everyone. I have some questions about the Holy Spirit that I am kind of confused on. First of all, why doesn't the Holy Spirit have a body like other gods and the rest of the Trinity? I mean the obvious answer to this is that He is a Spirit but why is there an exception for the Holy Spirit? Also, what do Mormons believe about the Holy Spirit in general? Quote
a-train Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 We do not know the origin nor destiny of the Holy Spirit. We know that He is an Eternal Spirit whose mission is that of Comforter. In this role, He comforts us with knowledge. All learning and understanding comes through His power. He is the Testator. The most precious spiritual gift a man can obtain in this life is the gift of the Holy Ghost. This gift is bestowed by the laying on of hands by those in authority after the covenant of baptism has been entered into. This gift is the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. The influence of the Holy Ghost is that of love, patience, kindness, integrity, and courage. He offers the spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind. As we pray to God, our answers come by Him. Although His spirit body is in one place at a time, His influence is omnipresent. He is able to communicate to us through spiritual medium at any time, in any place. Our worthiness is the only inhibition that can limit our ability to have communion with Him. He is somewhat anonymous. We know not His name, His relation to the Father and Son, or us. This anonymity is actually humbling and touching. He does His work in a seemingly unrewarded manner. It seems that He seeks to do it without any recognition. I am certain that our meeting of Him in Person one day will be rewarding and powerful. Much speculation has been put forward regarding Him. We must not be concerned with that. It is much more important that we learn to speak to God and hear His still small voice. The Holy Spirit stands with a singular mission unlike any Being. He is a great friend and teacher. He carries to the heart the words of our LORD. I have deep gratitude for the work and care of the Holy Spirit. -a-train Quote

Jesus Christ was G_d before He had a physical body. I see the Holy Ghost in much the same light.I believe the Holy Ghost will receive His physical body eventually, but as to when that is, I have no clue. The Holy Ghost is the comforter that Christ spoke about. He is the 3rd member of the Godhead. He is the conveyor of truth. He is the witness of G_d. He is the means of inspiration, guidance and revelation of G_d, though not the only means, as G_d can do this Himself. Quote
HoosierGuy Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Although His spirit body is in one place at a time, His influence is omnipresent. -a-train We went over the Holy Ghost last Sunday in my Gospel Principles class. The teacher was explaining how the Holy Ghost can be in only oneplace at a time but influence many - He said think of the Sun. Thereis only one "Sun" in the sky, but its rays of light shine on many. Its rays hit a large portion of the Earth. Same as the Holy Ghost - he canonly be in one place at a time, but he can influence many. Quote
tubaloth Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 (Doctrine and Covenants 130:22-23.)22 The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.23 A man may receive the Holy Ghost, and it may descend upon him and not tarry with him. Its so the Holy Ghost can do its job as a spirit. Its spirit speaking to spirit! Quote
