Guest tomk Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 THE EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE HEBREWS CHAPTER 6 Let us go on to perfection—Sons of perdition crucify Christ afresh—God swears with an oath that the faithful shall be saved. 1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, [FAITH, REPENTANCE, BAPTISM, GIFT OF HOLY GHOST] let us go on unto perfection [PERFECTION THROUGH INTERACTION WITH CHRIST, "FOLLOWING HIM"]; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this will we do, if God permit. 4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift [sECOND COMFORTER], and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, [sECOND COMFORTER] 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh [MURDER], and put him to an open shame. 7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: 8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. 9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. 10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: 12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. 13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, 14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. 17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: 18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, [EXEMPLAR] made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Ether 12: 4 4 Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God. rameumptom Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Great verses you supplied here. I'm not sure if the heavenly gift mentioned is the 2nd Comforter, rather I believe it to be the Gift of the Holy Ghost - the Constant Companion. Our goal is to develop a celestial relationship with the Godhead. We begin it by experiencing the Holy Ghost as a friend and companion, hopefully seeking to have him constantly and consistently with us. Only once he has become our Constant Companion in deed as well as word, can we hope to experience the 2nd Comforter. But we can focus our hope, our personal celestial vision, on the day when we can see the Savior and have him as a personal companion. In the meantime, we hope to daily enjoy the Spirit in our lives, and focus on the glorious resurrection that can fill our souls with greater hope, which then increases our faith and faithfulness. bert10 Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Hi Tomk. I see things way differently than what you have posted. I would like to share what I have learned. I have shared this many times with the Christians who had asked concerning this. Of course they could not accept it. Hebrews 6:1 - THEREFORE leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Hebrews 6:2 - Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. Hebrews Chapter 6 deals with the Gospel of Repentance and also with the Gospel of perfection......"Let us move on unto perfection."Hebrews 6:1-2 deals Solely with the Gospel or Repentance. Note were are leaving just those principles of Christ for Greater principles in CHRIST. For the lower laws are always fulfilled by a Higher law. Here is what we have to leave behind in order to move on unto perfection: <> - not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works: Why? because once we have been forgiven of our sins...doing works of repentance is useless. I did not say that we should not keep the Spirit of contrition. But pleading for forgiveness of sins when we are already received it dead works. For it is written....He who is born of God does not sin. [John]<> - and of faith toward God, Once one has a testimony of Jesus Christ....His faith of God is transformed into knowledge. We still require faith to do works. But if one repents properly His faith towards God is changed into Knowledge.<> - Of the doctrine of baptisms, Once Baptized it is sufficient. That is why we also leave it behind. In the early days of the Apostles and as well as in the early days of the church [i believe] LDS would seek to be baptized often for the remission of Sin. *The ordinance of Baptism is the symbolism of our purity achieved by repentance and where we Covenant before God and Witnesses we will follow the commandments of God.*<> - and of laying on of hands: Once one has received the laying on of hands for the promise of the Holy Ghost....it is sufficient. It cannot be conferred by force nor by how many times one undergoes this ordinance.<> - and of resurrection of the dead, Those that goes into the Grave against their will....shall not leave behind the Resurrection of the Dead. Only they who receives the promises of Life Eternal in the flesh shall not TASTE OF DEATH. See Paul concerning the change that comes in a twinkling of an eye. Like John, the 3 Nephites, Elijah, Enoch...etc. This change is not in fulness.<> - and of eternal judgment. The Law is judge ye not and ye shall not be judged. Those who become the Spiritual man has learned to not judged other men outside of the Spirit of Judgment. And so they are not judged. These are the things we leave behind when we move on unto perfection. I have given a brief explanation why we leave those things behind.----------------------------------------------------------Gospel of Perfection. [ie, Highway of Holiness, Narrow way etc]I do not know exactly where to begin....because this now deals with what is Spiritual and only they who are Spiritual can know of it. I will try on verses 4 and 5 and see if I can convey correctly this stuff. Again I will put is in a list form and give a brief explanation. For it is impossible for those who were: <> Once En- light- ened, and;It means for those who have received the Light of Christ. For if you remember the BOM teaching concerning the Spirit of Christ also being called the Spirit of Truth and LIGHT. And a son of perdition is a murderer of the Truth [LIGHT].<> have tasted of the heavenly gift, and;The heavenly gifts is "HEAVENLY PEACE". It is to have GOD the Son and the Father ABIDING in US.<> were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, By the laying on of hands...we are conferred the Holy Ghost by promise which is conditional that we shall repent fully and learn to Hear and be taught of the FATHER before Being Given to Christ. [still small voice]The following also belongs in the gospel of perfection. For no one is given to Christ for further purification until he has fulfilled the conditions of it. Which is hear and learn of the Father.John 6:45 - It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.---------------------------------------------------<> tasted the good word of God: and;Tasted. Means to ingest, absorb and BEcome. And condition and the promise is concerning this Heavenly Bread which is the WORD Which is CHRIST ....meaning Anointed One with Light.John 6:50 - This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.Jesus is the Bread that came down...and He brought LIGHT to men. They who become FULL OF LIGHT and turn again to darkness there is nothing left with which they can be "salted" unto repentance.<> the powers of the world to come, Those who are born of God do not sin, do not grow old, do not get sick, things of the world become subjected unto them etc.Other powers of the world to come is....Translations, Urim and Thummim, Creation, etc.------------------------------------------------------------I now end here. Because Hebrews 6:6 can be easily be understood by the information above.I hope you guys understand this post and pray about it. Either we learn and do this stuff in this world or we begin after death which may carry a penalty.Hebrews 6:4 - For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, Hebrews 6:5 - And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, Hebrews 6:6 - If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. Peace be unto youbert10 Quote
Hemidakota Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 True. Our learning abilities must come in this life and we must always push forward our gospel knowledge to the best of our abilities. Tom, if one would follow the precepts of what you have listed, the journey begins on knowing the Holy Ghost and having the anchor of ‘hope’. We must be familiar with this Godhood character and know Him personally. To make Him not only our gifted comforter, but have Him as our friend. Stepping stones Tom, to what comes next. Not only He will offer the Savior in person when the Savior calls His own, or a voice for those non-members, but make that ‘sure’ confirmation to the spirit. Stepping stones….after which, we have the privy to ministering of spirits over our lifetime and doctrine that is hid from the wold. Now, when I read of Hebrews verse 19, I see the anchor of one’s soul is ‘hope’. Paul was a man of hope. This faithful and steadfast servant of Christ who had black hair, olive complexion, worn face, and not very imposing height of five feet tall, at times, his voice was like thunder when moved upon by the Holy Spirit. Paul realized the word’s true meaning – hope -. Why? He made fifty-two of the New Testaments that was canonized by the Pagans, fifty nine references on this word. Looking at Paul’s writing and Moroni, we can surely obtain “…a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God [Ether 12:4]. Hope for me, is a strong desire that Heavenly Father does answer as with Lehi, whom seek to be like Moses [you are not going to find this in BOM]. Did the Lord answer that desire? Yes! Our hope that leads to those desires, if become a anchor in our lives, we can surely expect an answer when the Father is ready. Now, I have hope that we can all come to know the character of Deity in this probation. Quote
