skalenfehl Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 So you are one of those "scared" one hundred year type occupation guys? Americans are such wimps..... in WWII, and in Darfur now (along with other countries), thousands die everyday. Millions died in general. Heck, even many hundreds of thousands of Americans. But a handful of terrorists kill a few thousand of us, and we spend a trillion dollars, and occupy a land that wasn't even part of the original attack, as a reaction? Goodness gracious, no wonder we seem to be a fading nation.I guess you didn't have any friends or family members killed by terrorist attacks, did you? I am not scared of anything. If I have to I will go to war and lay down my life for the safety of my family and friends and for your right to believe and say that I am "scared". It's easy for both of us to say these things, but did you have relatives or acquaintances that died when the twin towers were destroyed or the pentagon was hit or anyone aboard flight 93, which was very likely headed to our nation's capitol? An acquaintance of mine was killed when one of the planes hit the pentagon. Americans are wimps? That is certainly your inalienable right to believe so. The dictator known as Saddam Hussein has been removed and Bin Laden is still being hunted down while terrorists are currently pinned down and cornered. Countless citizens in Iraq are now free. History will judge how this will be viewed. We're still in the middle of it and the dust hasn't completely settled. We were in a brutal war with Germany 60 some years ago but no longer. We even have American bases there today. I've been there. Do you consider that "occupation" wrong? We have embassies in many countries, who are our allies. The bottom line is there is still a huge nuclear threat from Iran, which just very recently (according to today's news) sent aid to terrorists in Iraq (I need to find the source). As mentioned above a very prominent Democrat was quoted to say that she would attack Iran (nuclear) if Iran attacked Israel. Should we just let Iran go ahead and make all the nuclear weapons they desire and stay out of it and let terrorist continue their plotting? Iran knows we could squash them as do the terrorists including Bin Laden, but did that stop terrorists from infiltrating our borders and committing terrorist attacks during 9/11? Should we just bring all our troops home, whom you call wimps, while terrorist plot against the world, including us? Should we let Israel be destroyed? That would certainly usher in and expedite the inevitable battle of Armageddon. Or would it? Quote
Adeipho Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 War is often the unfortunate price of peace and security. Interesting that while the war on terror has continued all these years, there have been no more attacks on the U.S. and Iraq is better off today. So you are one of those "scared" one hundred year type occupation guys? Americans are such wimps..... in WWII, and in Darfur now (along with other countries), thousands die everyday. Millions died in general. Heck, even many hundreds of thousands of Americans. But a handful of terrorists kill a few thousand of us, and we spend a trillion dollars, and occupy a land that wasn't even part of the original attack, as a reaction? Goodness gracious, no wonder we seem to be a fading nation. The fact that you used "Americans" "wimp" and "WWII" in one sentence exposes your ignorance to history and foriegn affairs. But the fact that you see "mere thousands" as unimportant and a non-issue simply because we're not loosing 10,000 lives a day like in the past is just sad and I extend my pity to you. We loose less lives now because our training and weapons are better. If we were still losing the lives we were then, now.....then you'd have something. What you're saying ammounts to this..."If only one or two of your family is murdered by a burglar whats the big deal? Why call the police? Its not like you're whole family except for you was killed or anything." What # of lives lost should we make the standard for war? Should terrorists be allowed to kill 100,000 before we take action? One million? What if it was only 5...and those five were your mother, father, spouse, and one your children, and an old lady across the street? Would you still have your current opinion? Quote
Moksha Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Which then reminds me of campaign/election reform..... don't get me started. It is such a Catch-22. How can you ever have campaign reform or even legislator ethics when you have a single party in power and they are making out like bandits? Quote
skalenfehl Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 I wish there wasn't a two party system. I want our country to return to its founding principles. I think both parties have left the people. We need to return to limited government, the courts need to return to their constitutional role, lower taxes, protect individual liberty, property rights, free enterprise, etc. I believe in Rule of Law:The rule of law is a fundamental component of democratic society and is defined broadly as the principle that all members of society -- both citizens and rulers -- are bound by a set of clearly defined and universally accepted laws. In a democracy, the rule of law is manifested in an independent judiciary, a free press and a system of checks and balances on leaders through free elections and separation of powers among the branches of government.Although a written constitution is not a necessary component of democracy – for example, Great Britain does not have one -- in the United States, the rule of law is based primarily on the U.S. Constitution and on the assurance that U.S. laws – in conjunction with the Constitution -- are fair and are applied equally to all members of society.I want to keep free choice in health care, allow free enterprise to flourish again with fair taxes so that I as an employer can build my business, create more jobs, strengthen infrastructure, etc.I believe in democracy, but not in many ideologies of the Democratic Party. I don't agree with socialized health care, for example. Currently, by the way, ours is the best in the world, as troubled as it may currently be. All this will do is reduce the quality of care while raising taxes so that everyone can "afford it". But if people want that and they are in the majority and vote accordingly, then that is where democracy will take us. I could go on. Both parties have left us all. Quote
