  1. What kind? I have had snakes as pets over the years. I liked them .
  2. Its true. They harbor fleas which carry the plague bacteria. One of my clients lost her airedale to plague 2 summers ago. It got plague from the fleas on the squirrel it caught and killed. About every other year there is a plague outbreak here in Arvada and the airedale got plague in Denver. They also carry lepto which is zoonotic meaning it can be caught by humans. Colorado is having a serious lepto outbreak and has been for about 3 years now.
  3. WOW Iggy!!!! I can say honestly I probably wouldnt have shot at a rat but hey thats just me...rats dont bug me too much till they get into my food supply then they are dead rodents walking. I do have a pretty serious issue with squirrels though. They carry fleas and plague and leptospirosis. Snce I am in the dog business thats not such a wonderful thing so I target male squirrels and pop them with a bb gun anytime I can. I leave the females because I cant stand the thought of a litter of pups starving to death in a nest somewhere........yes I know I am weird:rolleyes:
  4. Sorry I didnt think the site is gross. I find it to be helpful. That was my intent
  5. Go to one of my favorites websites. Go to the left side down about half way and click on spiders....or you can take a pic and post it and ask them to id the wee skittery beastie. What's That Bug? PS. I can handle just about anything that creeps crawls or slithers with no problem but spiders give me a serious case of the heebie -jeebies so when I got married I told my husband he had 2 choices. He could kill the spiders as soon as he saw them or he could patch the bullet holes ,because I will get my .22 out to dispatch them. I am a wicked good shot !
  6. A few years back the local grocery store employees went on strike. I went in and bought $280.00 worth of groceries and paid with a check. I kept waiting for that check to clear but it never did. After 3 months I went back and spoke to the manager who told me that some of the temporary help they had working registers turned out to be relatives or friends of the people on strike and quite a few checks had disappeared. The temps were chucking them out in an effort to cost the store more money during the strike. The manager told me that a few people had come in and said their checks never cleared either. He said I could just forget it and thanked me for my honesty. I felt funky about it so I went to the local food bank and wrote them a check for $280.00 to kind of pay it forward.

    dry beans

I find that beans cook best for me if I sort them then put them in a pot with cold water. Bring the pot to a full rolling boil for 3 minutes then shut the heat off and let sit for at least an hour. Drain the water off and cover with fresh water..... add stuff like peppers or garlic or onions but nothing with salt. Bring up to a simmer and simmer on low till tender, THEN add the stuff like bacon or ham. Simmer on low till the beans are tasty and the meat falls apart. I found that adding stuff with salt or adding tomatos before the beans were tender made them tough. The whole process usually takes about 3 hours for me. I am in denver and I dont know if its the altitude that makes the difference with adding salt later in the beans but it does. Altitude does affect cooking times and processes.

    recipe ideas

Try putting finely grated parmesan on the OUTSIDE of the bread stuck to the butter before you grill any grilled sandwich. The parmesan forms a nice crusty surface on the outside of the bread and adds that nice tangy salty parmesan flavor. I like it on grilled ham sandwiches or on patty melts and its awesome on a tuna melt.

    recipe ideas

I make my own, but dont ask for a recipe because I always "wing it" with soup. It is always really good but depending on what I have on hand it often comes out slighty different each time.

I use the rinds from parmesan cheese to help flavor minnestone soup. Just dump in a rind as the soup simmers.
