  1. I know your hurt and sad and angry and every other emotion under the sun but you ARE NOT UNWANTED!! You are wanted and loved by Heavenly Father and by all those who have and will continue to stand by you. Things will change for you and you will be different because this has changed you but you will be stronger. Im sure that you will be able to trust again in time as well. Lean on those who stand by you and love you and rely on Him to give you peace and solace.
  2. Does anyone here keep bees? Which hive do you use...langstroth or topbar and why? Where did you get your bees and which variety did you choose. Why did you choose the variety you have...hardiness,honey production, mite resistance ect? Thanks in advance for any answers
  3. I have it. Took me 15 years to find a doctor who believed me when I said something was really wrong. I gained 70 pounds over the course of 2 years without changing my diet or exercise plan yet all I heard was eat less exercise more.. This disorder is linked closely with diabetes and I am now battling the diabetes that came with it. People have no idea just how life altering PCOS can be and what shocks me is that so many medical people have no clue of a disorder that affects as many as 1 woman in 10:eek:
  4. I might be way off track here but... maybe you can find someone like me. Someone who wants to learn more and be more involved but cant for one reason or another and then you can share with them what you love about being LDS. Maybe sharing your love of the church with them will benefit you both. I could be wrong tho it happens all the time:rolleyes:
  5. No concrete floor but it is dig proof. It was set up with a dig proof barrier around the outside edge and the inside perimiter. As far as them being pets I mean that in the sense of feeding them treats by hand and having them tame enough to approach and handle. My grandma always had chickens and we always had one or two that were really tame and would come when called and eat from your hand. I know they have a limited laying life and according to everybody I talked to at stock show ,buffs are prolific layers when they are laying. I live about 6 blocks from city hall and the local police department so Im not exactly rural. I cant free range my hens and at .70/.80 cents a pound chickens to eat are way cheaper to buy. I also really hated having to pluck after butchering at my grandmas so not really looking to raise these guys for meat although as big as buffs get they would probably make good roasting birds. I just miss the taste of home grown eggs and I like chickens so......here we are getting ready to buy a couple of pullets. Im sure it sounds goofy but I'm actually ok with being goofy:)
  6. Thanks for the reply. I am going to be getting 2 buff orplingtons (city only lets me have 2). They are big chickens that lay between 3 and 5 eggs per week which is more than enough for just the 2 of us. I have a 10 x 10 dog run that I am going to put a roof on to keep coons out. I was planning on using it for the pen and putting a small coop inside it for shelter ,roosting and laying. The predators we have had in the yard include hawks( they bath in my pond:rolleyes:)coons and fox. So far we have escaped the coyotes on my block but I expect to see them at some point since Colorado is overrun with them. Buff orplingtons are really docile and sweet natured and these guys will likely be half pet and half breakfast producer. I was thinking a small slanted roof kind of coop with an outside accessible nest box and sliding shutters to go over the windows in in bad weather. We get a huge range in weather from 60 degree days like today to -30. The pen is situated under a huge ash tree and faces east so it gets morning sun only in the summer and is shaded the rest of the day. It gets a fair amount of all day sun during the winter. I was planning on tarping the west and north sides of the kennel during winter to block the prevailing winds while leaving the east and south sides open for sunlight. Does this sound like a good plan? Can you offer any advice or suggest changes ? I have wanted chickens for 20 years and want to do this right so I am happy and grateful to get any advice I can get. thanks
  7. Hi I am wondering if anyone has chickens? If so what breeds and can you share some ideas about your coop design?
  8. I applied for my concealed carry in Colorado in November. I was told at that time there was a 3 to 4 month backlog on the CBI background check . Colorado Bureau of Investigation is flat out swamped with the recent applications and cant keep up. Im hoping to get mine by February or March.
  9. Based on my own personal experience I would advise you to NOT confront this person in anyway.Stay away from her... do not engage her in anyway whether in private or in public. The people who should be confronting her,are law enforcement and the bishop. A direct confrontation will only hurt you in the end. It will allow doubt to enter the minds of people who will ask "If she scared you so badly then why did you confront her"... Stupid thinking I know but it doesnt benefit you in the end to confront her.
  10. I was stalked years ago. I moved 3 times before I lost my stalker. The story you tell of this girl raises the hair on the back of my neck. I believe you need to get your husband and yourself to the police and file a report.Log all incidents and report anything that comes up to the officer assigned to your case. Take the case number the police give you and a copy of your report and leave one with your bishop and stake president. Make sure if your son is in school that the school has a copy and that they understand that your son is at risk from this person. They will help you maintain his safety You absolutely cannot be worried that you are overreacting to the potential threat. The security of your home needs to be examined and upgraded if possible. Make sure you have a secue safe room you and your son and husband can get to if she comes at you in your own home, the suggestion to get a gun is smart and sound advice. Take the classes... both of you, and understand how to protect each other safely. Ask your neighbors , friends and family to help you keep watch. Inform whoever employs you and/ or your husbandof what is happening and ask that no information be given out and to be notified about any info requests. Flag your credit reports as well.I may sound dramatic and paranoid but believe me when I tell you that I lived this and the suggestions I have made are a bare minimum to keep your family safe. May God keep you and yours in the palms of His hands.
  11. Cant cash a check here at a bank without giving a fingerprint and cant get a drivers license without one either.. the police wont pursue a bad check unless the merchant puts the clients fingerprint on the check they write either. Fingerprints are a way of life here. Completely sucks. I own a small business and when I got the notice from the police department that merchants in my city were supposed to get fingerprints on all checks I posted a notice telling my clients we would NOT comply . I just feel that its not my job to fingerprint innocent people...that should be for law enforcement and criminals. My clients all thanked me for it and I honestly have had only one check in 20 years that I couldnt collect on. We live in scary times and unfortunately ..at least for me , the ones who scare me most are the ones in charge.
  12. I was at bass pro this weekend looking for another handgun. The people were lined up 3 and 4 deep at the gun counter. The clerk told me thay had sold more than 500 weapons this past weekend alone. The display cases were empty. People were also hauling cases of ammo out by the cartload. I did buy another handgun but am going to have to wait a week ofr it to arrive. I then went to my sheriffs departmart today to get my carry permit and there were people lined up there too.. the clerk at the sheriffs office told me that they have been swamped with carry applications for a couple of weeks. Seems like people are trying to grandfather in their guns rights before Obama takes office. Colorado had the highest recorded number of gun sales this past weekend ever. Interesting stuff.
  13. Loudmouth I agree with you 200 % about the class being serious about the subject and I did learn an enormous amount. I found the class fun as well though because there was a fair amount of humor from the instructors and during breaks it was good to be able to speak openly about guns with other like minded people and not worry that I was offending someone because I am pro-gun or have others lok at me like Im a nut because I own and enjoy firing my ruger. I believe the second class I am taking in January will be more along the lines of what your wife took . Its a personal protection in the home class. I have to say I have enjoyed this thread a great deal. Kudos to all for making it a an interesting thread and for keeping it civil. This is a really fantastic group of people!
  14. LoudMouth, May I ask how your wife liked her class? Did she take a class that was just for women or one that was for both men and women? I just finished my NRA basic pistol course this past Saturday. Qualified on the range same day. I really enjoyed the class and have signed up for another class offered by the same instructor for Home Defense. Will your wife be applying for a concealed carry permit? Hopefully I am not being offensive by being too snoopy I am just excited to hear your wife is doing it too. PS. Just as a side note I was amazed by how many people were in my class and by how many of those people came as family groups. There were several couples....one entire family of 4..... 2 sets of grandparents with 1 or 2 grandsons with them and several sets of boyfriend/girlfriend couple. There was also at least 6 women who were all over the age of 65 getting their certificates for the permit due to the fact that they no longer feel safe unarmed. Interesting and kind of scary all at the same time.
  15. I was watching a show on TV a few years back about the differences between men and womens brains and how they function. On this show they did a medical scan of somekind of both sexes brains during wake periods and sleep periods. One of the most amazing things I learned on that show was that womens brains literally never stopped thinking. Even during sleep some part of their brain was always active and thinking, men however have periods of time in which their brains are completely inactive.....no thought processing at all. This happened both when they were awake and when they were asleep. Basically they had moments when they were simply breathing digesting ...ect. Automatic type stuff. So the lesson here was that when you ask a man "What are you thinking about" and he answers "Nothing" its probablly literally true.
  16. I make my own bacon and hams. I smoke meats, make jerky and can make my own butter and cheese. I also preserve stuff with canning. I can hunt and fish as well as my husband and I can do some tracking. I know how to butcher too.
  17. I am pro gun. I grew up with a family who all served military. I also grew up in a military town. My family were ranchers, or veterens or military or hunters who all owned and used weapons. I own weapons as does my husband. I DO NOT like the idea of having to use my handgun against another person. I would only do it as a last defense. In April of this year a man came at us in a local park. He was hostile and aggressive and threatening. At one point he picked up a softball sized rock and threatened to bash my skull in with it...all the time this was occurring I was on my cell phone with the police. My husband drew his weapon. He did not point it at the man ... but he did have it drawn in case he needed to stop this nutjob. We did everything in our power to not have this conlict and we did convince him to shove off after he saw the handgun. I believe that he would have tried to kill me if he hadnt seen that weapon. He DID NOT WANT TO SHOOT but he would have if he needed to . Neither one of us wanted to shoot this guy....neither one of us was uncaring about the possibilty that we might have to kill. Please believe me when I say that most people with guns dont enjoy the thought of having to use them on another human
  18. One of the things I like most about this particuar forum is the way that people can debate an issue and remain civil and polite with each other. I hope that we can continue this discussion as I am enjoying peoples differing views and philosophies. There have been a few times in this forum that discussions I was following have been closed. I hope this wont be one of them
  19. Im thinking maybe that comparing protecting your food versus protecting your child are not in the same category.I sure wouldnt shoot someone for stealing a can of beans from me but you can believe I would fire till empty reload and fire again if they came for anyone I loved.
  20. I recently bought a handgun. I take my concealed carry class next Saturday and will apply for my permit as soon as I get my certificate from class. This past April a man threatened to bash my skull in with a rock. In the past I relied on my dogs to keep guys like that away. Since I no longer have my dobermans I now have a weapon. Its a sorry state in this world that I feel the need to be armed for a Sunday walk in the park. I have always enjoyed shooting. Im a reasonably good shot with a rifle and my husband and I spend a fair amount of time at the range target shooting. I like the skill and precision involved. I dont want to have to carry but it seems like I may need to sometimes so I will make sure I know what I am doing and that I will be prepared to the best of my ability to do the right thing.
  21. "I know of nobody who is purely Autistic or purely neurotypical. Even God had some Autistic moments, which is why the planets all spin" I love this quote at the end of your reply Vegasbay!. I think its probably more accurate than anybody knows. I have tested for Aspergers a couple of times now and my tests came back as "neuroquirky" which was their fancy way of explaining to me that after 25 years of living with an Aspie who is pretty extreme in many of his traits, I have adapted and have coped by adopting/mimicing asperger like traits. When I take the tests after I have been away from my husband for a week or two I test neurotypical. One of the testers told me she sees this a lot in the spouses of Asperger people and she called it being "aspergated" LOL
  22. Aspergers IS autism. Autism is a spectrum disorder meaning that not all people who have it will have the same abilities or disabilities. Think of it as a rainbow shape....some people will be down on the lower left side of the rainbow in some areas but clear over to the far right in others. Also Aspies seem to slide back and forth on that rainbow arch on any given day. Aspergers is best described as a communication disorder. The aspie doesnt communicate well with others nor do they communicate well within themselves. Many aspies have an extraordinary ability to bear pain for that reason....they simply dont always recognize the sensation as pain.My husband is an aspie. He doesnt recognize many of his own emotions and feelings and cannot decipher what others are thinking or feeling very easily either. My Asperger husband cannot adapt to new situations rapidly at all and can be sent into a handflapping panic at a sudden change. Aspies are often gifted in many ways and usually have high IQ's.
  23. Iggy....Coons have been a big problem here. I think it was 2 years ago that the coon population had a distemper outbreak and for awhile animal control in Arvada was picking up as many as 40 sick/dying coons per week. On the weird side...... the other day I picked up my newspaper off the driveway about 5 in the morning. I noticed it was wet but thought it was dew till I got inside and noticed the smell. A freaking fox peed on my newspaper! Hows that for annoying? I couldnt get the smell of fox pee off my hand for a couple of hours. If you have never smelled it before its kind of a cross between tomcat pee and skunk. Every dog I touched that day either shied away from me or was so interested in smelling my hand that I had to just let them get it out of their system before we could continue. I live in a very urban suburb of Denver and see as much wildlife as I ever did living rural in Montana. I have seen buzzards on my block, had hawks hunt and bathe in my yard, have fox and coon in my yard and I live within walking distance of city hall so its not like I'm even on the edge of town. Im right in the middle. Its pretty cool really....... I like the local wildlife and find it amazing that it can survive in the heart of the city.
