  1. Who knows prisonchaplain. Since there's a lot of "PETA-bashing" going on I'd like to state something. PETA is not the "leader" for vegans, nor do all vegans by any means support PETA. Here's a friend of mine from Tasmania talking about PETA: Even then, some vegans absolutely hate PETA. Just wanted to state this to make sure none of you "bunch in" vegans as PETA supporters overall. I was a vegan for a while, but I had to stop because my family didn't want to buy me the foods I needed (even though they would have saved money, as such a diet is cheaper) so for now I'm a "freegan" -- I essentially eat whatever I'm given.
  2. He's also giving more power to the Fed -- PETA should be concerned about that, we all should. Genius, this man. *rolls eyes*
  3. Oh, I understood that Traveler - I just didn't see the need to go into detail. :)
  4. I agree with you Heather, I enjoy finding all these other websites.
  5. The Swine for creating this flu? I'm sorry that I have to be so serious when you're making a joke, but this flu is either: 1. Laboratory engineered (which is fairly unlikely) 2. Caused by factory farming conditions where living conditions for animals are filthy (this is the same in so-called developed countries, too). The latter is the likely cause. It's like if you put human beings in filthy conditions, it doesn't take long for disease and sickness to come about.
  6. I think that the virus threatens those in developing and third world countries. They're the human beings that we should be concerned about. However, if it did get bad... maybe there could be good in it. We need something to bring us together.
  7. Big surprise!? It's a MAJOR surprise that WHO could be so stupid. It's a very mild strain.
  8. Until you provide evidence of this upcoming second-coming it is ALL speculation, that's what meta-physics is -- and that's why I put it up to a standard of proof, otherwise I'd believe anything.Thank-you for sharing your point of view, though.
  9. Margaret Mead, my friend. Hemidakota, I'm not going to have a 'duke out' with you on your beliefs -- because that is what they are: beliefs. No arguing will ever change those things, it takes a change in someone's environment (mostly) for that sort of change. So in light of that, you're welcome to them. It's not that I'm saying "you are definitely wrong" it's just that I have a very high standard of proof.
  10. With all due respect Hemi, I find this position extremely socially offensive. There is no need for us to wait for someone to come in a white robe and save us all, we can deal with the problems right now -- it just takes a change in values that correspond with the Earth and humanity.
  11. Well, current events topics could always be filtered out of the new posts PC. Anything is possible with technology.
  12. That is censorship to a degree. Open forum is 18 only because adults only topics are discussed in there. Politics is not an adults only thing. A sub-board would be fine, but I'd be quite disgusted to see politics made "private only" on here.
  13. No, I'm eighteen. I have access to the Open forum. I just don't want things cut off to 'adults only'.
  14. Oh, well I agree with a separate forum. Maybe a sub-board in this current events board? My issue is with it being an 18+ only thing. People like to discuss politics/social systems, etc,. And they don't need to be 18.
  15. The world is continually going nuts -- because we're out of line with our own planet -- our value systems have no relevance (for most) because they don't correspond with the carrying capacity of the Earth. Because we try to rely on politics, which is not oriented towards problem solving at all. Because we use money, which is obsolete in the face of advancing technology (especially nano-technology and automation). The system is nuts, and therefore produces a crude form of life. That's the culture we see today. It's a veritable "garbage in, garbage out" as long as we perpetuate a system that creates a selfish and ignorant public -- how can we expect to have leadership that represents anything different?
  16. I think that's ridiculous. Open discussion of the 'politics of the day' so to speak is important for people of all ages ... it certainly should not be limited to those '18 and over'. Politics is not a sensitive issue, it's something that people should feel they can be freely outspoken on and Politics and Current Events are mutually exclusive. And, this website is owned by the More Good Foundation.
  17. Unforgiveable sin? Well, there's only one of those.
  18. And I thought this was going to be a serious thread asking a question along the lines of "How much longer can we handle this ridiculous monetary-ism before the great majority of society decides they're displaced and call for a new social system based on present-day knowledge?" Wow, I really got over excited.
  19. Yes, and one hour of sunlight at high-noon could power the Earth for over a year. It's just a matter of utilising the technology to harness that. Geothermal Energy could provide us with 3,000 years of clean planetary power in abundance. And the earth's heat is regenerative so that wouldn't ever run out. Wind Power, the US department of energy has admitted, could power the whole nation if it was properly utilised in just 2 or 3 American states. We have plenty of energy abundance on earth without looking to the moon. Any shortages we perceive are just a result of industry's general manipulation.
  20. Here's a possible source of the growing antagonism: It would seem to me that a 'tough' policy on a country threatening to use nuclear arms (or seemingly so) is far from the best action to take. How stupid can they be?
  21. I do hope it's a little more creative and original. A lot of them seem to follow a template.
  22. I don't think anyone should be emotionally scarred. What I'd suggest is that rather than giving your opinion in the opening post, just post the information and then ask others their opinion and respond with yours. That'd be a start in talking to people properly. It seems that when you post a topic, and simultaneously announce your opinion you're talking AT people rather than TO them. I enjoy you posting them, but just don't ... I don't know ... make your opinion seem deliberately imposed (i.e., posting it in the opening post). Or maybe just, cut it down.
  23. Specifically, since we're talking about 'businesses dropping dead' I'm referring to Technological Unemployment which economists were talking about 50+ years ago. Basically to summarise it: as technology grows and industry continues to automate more (and they have to, to become more competitive) more people will be out of work. That, eventually, is the end of the so-called free-enterprise system. FunkyTown, the way our systems are now, the idea of expanding in space is very scary. It's not far-fetched to say that nations could start putting weapons in space for all we know ... and that's a really scary possibility. We need to fix our problems here first, before we worry about the rest of the universe.
  24. Will the Rome temple be more extravagant in appearance, than say the more modern one's which are very bland? Will it be... more 'Salt Lake'-like?
  25. One very good reason for global disarmament. Unfortunately, we can't do that in this system.
