I had a rather wordy response- however I realized that you may be asking something different than my "soliloquy." Do you mean the pagans before Christ's time? or rather the "righteous unlearned" who die before receiving the sacrament of baptism?
-
Yes! It is a fun site with many kind people... Although Jamie, I'm a little freaked out by your Avy reminds me of that Stephen King movie...

Good luck! :) we are both fortunate to be so close to Hill Cumorah... I hope that helps you!

interesting. well... "when in Rome"... I suppose....

well I wasn't looking for an exact number- but I'm sure all churches do keep track. Whether it's published or not is another story. It seems all churches do a good job noting status (active, inactive/disfellowed, excom, annulments, remarriages, statistical difference between those married temporally or sealed etc.) ...but that's for another thread:).
-
does anyone know (roughly) the percentage of those disfellowed vs. excommunicated in your church? then what is the percentage of those who want to return to an "active" status?

Welcome! I studied in Germany some years back and LOVED it there!Even got used to the dialect:cool:If I can help with German language questions- let me know:)

Nor am I (a member)- and I completely agree with Jim108. Maybe a good exercise, danz, would be to "surf" by a Catholic forum like this and read how they treat non-members. It's certainly an eye-opener (and a little embarassing, frankly:eek:). And although a few do not represent the whole, the level of anger is abundant.

LOL- very true! After all if He could will the Red Soxs winning the Series some years back... anything is possible

Palerider- as a Non-member, you have to understand we hear tons of media information from LDS, RLDS, FLDS, Church of Christ etc. and don't know the difference between these factions. I'm assuming x-girl was asking about Brigham Young's views in contrast to "mainstream" LDS views? :)

Well I can't speak as a convert- but I can speak of having two different Christian denominations in my family, incl. my husband. So- it seems that your mother's response is more toward "not wanting you to break tradition." (and fear that stems from the unknown). However, both are temporal when she sees your happiness. :)

From Joseph Smith as Scientist: "The writer is aware of the beliefs held by many students regarding the so-called touch sense, heat sense, magnetic sense, electrical sense, spiritual sense, etc. So little is known of these subdivisions of the sense of feeling, that they are not considered in this popular writing. There is, moreover, no evidence that the magnetic sense, as an example, if it exists, is a direct effect of magnetic forces; it is as easily believed that the body somehow converts magnetic forces, under certain circumstances, into other forces that may be sensed by man." (Widtsoe, 1908, p. 123). GingerGolden, I could e-mail you the .pdf?
-
Does anyone know what Widtsoe was referring to when he mentioned the body converting magnetic forces? Also what is the discrepency between the magnetic force and affect of the magnetic sense? Joseph Smith as Scientist: A ... - Google Book Search footnote of p.123.

well written! Also, His apostles wanting to go with Him but knowing they couldn't, as He had to accomplish the aforementioned alone. I appreciate your response.:)

Hi Janice- Actually, the Catholic Catechism (#460) teaches "The Word became Flesh to make us partakers of the divine nature.... for the Son of God became man, so that we may become God." So the idea of progression is there- even though our end results are very different. This is also not something that is well-researched. Catholics may argue this simply means "you progress by grace only." I disagree. I completely agree that there is a stark difference between the LDS and Catholic concepts of blasphemy and fear. In my opinion, that is why we Catholics do NOT openly testify. It is personal and sacred, being taken from us if we reveal it. We do "fear" the Father more than LDS, so the idea that He is more of a paternal, loving, kind -(a more New Testament God- sans floods and fires)- is a very comforting concept.:)

Investigator Questions on God, Scripture, etc.

As a non-member, I found the publications of John Widtsoe to be an excellent resource.
