  1. i can speak for myself. i have gone inactive twice. I had been living in another country and returned to the US. I returned to weeping people in chapel. a child had gotten molested and it was mishandled. the ward was split in two. people sat in chapel and cried. there was a weird energy. i took one look, said, heck no, and left for two years. the next time i went inactive, it was my fault. i got lazy and let my social calendar dictate my spiritual calemdar. I can tell you that when i was most active it was when i had a calling and a temple recommend. i work hard to maintain that recommend. if i have a responsibiltiy, i actually show up and don't get the sunday lazies.
  2. i have not read any of the other answers, so as to not bias my reply. think about it from their side. they get to wait outside. woohoo. I wouldn't come either. is there a reception or ring ceremony planned?
  3. i know this is an old thread, but I think it it is more important to learn technique than recipes. I found "great chefs" TV show to be most informational. then i bought the culinary institute cookbooks for more technique based recipes and menus. once you know the technique you can make anything. The techniques are easy and versaile: know how to make stock and court bouilllion, how to saute, braise, roast. Once you know how to steam, boil, bake. how to do the trilogy of flour, fat and liquid. how to make sauces.
  4. last year i was gong through a divorce, and was broke. I put on a lot of weight and few of my clothes fit. I didn't want to spend money on a dress that was needed for a short time. I chose to go to walmart and buy a few pairs of dressy jeans that were totally suitable for my workplace until i could get the "stress related weight" off. I chose to wear the dressy jeans with a classy blazer and pearls to church for several months. No one said anything. the weight's off now, and back to wearing skirts again.
  5. was looking for provident living info and stumbled across this site. Hello!
