  1. Then South Vietnam requested help as did Kuwait in '89. But Granada & Iraq were simply invaded, as was Panama (by the way hypocritically called 'Operation Just Cause'). You're right about Bush but he did campaigned as an evangelical, extreme conservative who was going to fix DC spending and waste. Now Obama campaigned promising to close Gitmo and end the Iraq war. Hasn't happened yet so maybe the guys you vote for don't actually run the place? maybe some 'secret combination' that the BoM talks about is already calling the shots in DC. The Fed maybe? or the military-industrial complex?? I'll have to go ask Glen Beck and get back to ya!
  2. Yes; point is, I believe, that first one needs to do the program to stop or get help from professionals ie psychologist, to stop and then AFTER one has stopped or almost totally stopped, that's when the Atonement can heal. And really for 'porn watching' we don't need to go and confess to a Bishop...his time is better used up with more serious cases like adultery which do need a confession to a bishop.
  3. Really? why is it that whenever they get voted in, government spending actually increases and the actual size of the federal government increases, especially its military wing. Or don't you count the military as a federal government expense? -plus they invade other countries, from Bermuda to Iraq so there isn't much freedom there. That "small government greater freedom" bit is today just a myth imo -or maybe just a campaign slogan.
  4. So??? nothing wrong with that. Those who can pay, those who can't have a safety net to rely on...........oh, but americans don't believe in safety nets right? just swim with the sharks! ...or is it the GOP that doesn't believe........hmmmm
  5. Women also seek that 'endorphin release'. You'd be surprised at how many view porn or simply get off with pics of brad pitt......anyway I doubt a picture if the savior could help here. But don't bother with the bishop yet. He will only take your recommend away, tell you to fast and pray, and tell his counselors to not call you to anything. You need a shrink to do a 12 step program or other treatment, to learn how to control those cravings and the curiosity, or the release. The sooner the better; its very difficult to live with guilt thats associated to an addiction.
  6. Apparently it is the nutty republicans who are the problem in this HC debate: The brutal truth about America’s healthcare - Americas, World - The Independent Although those massive malpractice payouts would obviously have some effect, partisan GOP lead fighting in america has turned 'USA Health Care' into a complete basket case. Apparently even 3rd-world-Philippines are doing HC better nowadays (according to anatess here). this says it well "From a distance, the hysteria at politicians' town hall meetings these past two weeks across the US comes across as the theatre of the absurd. Except the show has featured a death threat to one congressman and a senator who asked for a special police guard when he took on his critics, as well as yelling crowds of supporters and opponents of reform accusing each other of being Nazis and communists. But are we not talking of comfort and healing?..." again from The Independent, Rupert Cornwell. Same sanity is found in this world! but most US members claim to have a 'God inspired' HC system? nice
  7. high5, this training video may also help you: Updating Membership Records
  8. Same argument could've been used against blacks and the priesthood ban in the 60's most experienced stake presidencies members would know this but I see its not quite accepted by members as the last two comments show. the faith problems I think these men face is due to the situation more than an ego problem. They were told by their ex that they aren't wanted and after this the church tells them that they aren't good enough for those big callings precisely because their ex doesn't want them. A no win situation. At least the men I know about and have counseled over the years.
  9. Politically correct answer. Fact is the first presidency calls all bishops worldwide but they have repeatedly told us that they wont approve formally divorced men anymore as bishops -anymore since about 2002 odd.
  10. Technically no; unless there's a disciplinary council held your records aren't marked that way. But what does happen is that the previous Bishop marks it to ask the new bishop to contact him, MLS has a simple way to do this, and then a report is given to the new bishop usually over the phone. Obviously if these reactions occured then the previous bishop told the new one that you are a 'problem' towards children etc, ie he grouped you with pedophiles when it was only a minor SSA issue. The only way to escape this is to change wards, preferably stake too, without telling this bishop and then request the records quietly without telling the old ward at all so that the record isn't marked 'contact previous bishop'. Hopefully as new bishops come along this will disappear but it isn't easy to do in this day and age with all the attention given to child protection matters. Some more info for you is available at https://tech.lds.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
  11. Banquo, True; unless you're looking for help for this addiction, don't say anything. But don't ask for a temple recommend until you overcome this problem. The real problem though is with the divorce. Contrary to women, men who have divorced can't be Bishops, Stake presidents or counselors, patriarchs, CES directors or full time teachers or, for five years after the divorce, serve as temple workers. Once you realize this its like a kick in the guts. I've seen several men go inactive for a while once they understand this "church leadership policy". Oh, I say contrary to women because a divorced woman can marry and see her husband serve as Bishop or church president (as with HW Hunter) but a man, well the divorced are second class priesthood holders in the todays' church.
  12. Hmmmm...I wonder which ones you consider 'nutcase'. Hmmm......but taxpayers save everyone in other countries, like in my one. But then again we don't spend sooo much on the military, maybe that's why US taxpayers can't save all Americans? Well......if you can avoid the gangs, mass shootings at some college or McDonalds, and your not in a trailler. But America does have some good things, like Hollywood, hot cheerleaders, Nasa, invented the Internet, yea a few good things until you elected that Bush fellow...Oh dear! Well I'd have to disagree with this. There has to be a 'best way' and a 'least best way', that's why we look at the way other communities do things, to analyze which way could be the best way. And currently the rest of the world (& I feel safe saying this) looks to the american way of doing healthcare and says 'No, lets not go down that road' because its a big general mess. Something one can do in any country; and that goes for heatlhcare too. Well...you have a point here but then again it is a discussion over the internet. Plus I entered this discussion after reading about the misinformation currently being pushed by a Canadian woman and then I tried to correct the record about the so called 'national' or 'socialised' medicine. If americans only understood what the real situation is in Canada, Australia, Sweeden, Germany, GB etc then even if they chose not to copy them, fine, its your problem. But in this thread there are many examples of the misinformation that is currently going on in america (misinformation to be polite, could also be rightwing scare mongering). So really one could argue that I'm just trying to help my distant cousins here see the light regarding national healthcare systems
  13. yes the left can be just as bad at times. although i don't think that article is accurate, the left still aren't all innocent bystanders. just another sign that american is dividing into two very distinct separate factions. question is when will they actually come to blows.
  14. This is very important, key to what the problem is -the disinformation that the right (obviously most Mormons too) preach. I actually like Beck. I see him here on foxnews and like his comments on money printing etc but this video is just misleading. For example they compare the minimum public care available free for all without even mentioning private care, the insurance one can pay for better service in any two-tier system. For example he put up a note that Australians wait an average of 4 months for elective surgery...which is true but that's free elective surgery in a free public hospital. If one pays for private cover, as I do with $259per month!, there isn't any waiting time at all plus that elective surgery is done in a very comfortable 5-star private hospital. Britain has a similar system as #26 notes and there are plenty of articles, even wikipedia, to show this. But Beck prefers this totally misleading interview. Again, just a shame, and more right-wing brainwashing.
  15. Total rubbish, ridiculous!!! Your ethics are way off arguing that bankruptcy is petty.
  16. "Extended medical insurance' is really another term for private cover in two-tier systems, by the way. I'd say you were actually comparing systems when you mentioned "pre-existing condition" issues faced in the US, or limits on switching doctors etc. But what is a real shame is that people in the US don't seem to be capable of comparing their system with other countries' systems in a non-partisan way; they always seem to want to find what is better in the US system first and then why the GOP set it up well or the dems don't get it ... And when someone pops up, like that women in the very first entry here saying that Canadian health care will kill you (bizarre by the way) then partisans jump at that to decry Obama's current efforts to make things better. Amazing! If only they would try to improve things....but then again they think they have the best system in the world!!! Ignorance is bliss.
  17. That inconvenience mostly hurts the majority who are innocent, those abandoned by spouses or been cheated on, who eventually get back on their feet and try to remarry. Its the final kick in the guts -kick that comes from that cold church bureaucracy! They have to chase up a former spouse for his letter, and then explain their own marriage, re-visiting painful memories, plus a bishop, stake presidents and clerks like me find out about all this dirty laundry; its all scanned and kept on file forever, for any GA to see years down the track. Now up until today nothing has leaked but what if one it does? Now if you thought that it cheapens the sealing you should also make it more 'expensive' when one marries the first time? you only need one bishop and one stake presidents approval to be sealed the first time round so that actually gives you the true value of a sealing. Plus GAs make it clear that a marriage needs to become 'celestial' to actually make that sealing relevant which in a case of divorce it clearly could never be. Actually instead of not cheapening the sealing what it does is punish the divorced, even those innocent in divorces, since all go through the same grinder to get permission to remarry. Most of the guilty never return to church, they say that maybe one in ten excommunicated actually return. Anyway that disciplinary counsel is permanently listed to a members record -the info general authorities only see and some church employees- so if that formally excommunicated wants to remarry that could be considered then, leaving the innocent spouse out of it. Divorce may be brought on by sin and because of that bishops and stake presidents can and do become involved when it happens or the information comes out, and the 1st presidency wants it that way. Doing it all again when you re-marry is just picking at healed scares and even maybe bringing back the issues of that first marriage into the second marriage when they are better off dead and buried.
  18. Ummm.... bankruptcy is bad? Or is it Ok now in the ol USA? No wonder you can print up so much cash and be OK with it, but that's another issue.
  19. So never help thy neighbor? Point is that if he is treated he'll end up financially ruined or bankrupt due to the cost, if they do treat him fully since there are several outpatient visits after broken limbs surgery. Its not just the one operation where things are put back in place. Ummm...so only a GOP interpretation of that constitution is legit before God? and Roe v Wade...never mind. And didn't that constitution set up a congress to pass legislation? like on national health care? or Obama's current proposal? why is that constitution inspired by God when it agrees with the GOP but not when the Dems are the majority? Interesting that it only applies to the US person, that those same rights don't extent to, say, an Iraqi pre-2003? that same government that can't get into your house can bomb some Iraqi house (collateral damage off course) So Gekko was right , wasn't he. And those major leaps forward, would it include satellites? Nuclear power? Supersonic flight? all government programs, oh the internet was private enterprise? well not really but lets call it private since google's a private company. I wouldn't count the Apollo program since it didn't achieve much? The prophesies are extensive from BY, Pratt, JFS, and others and are easily found. Last book I read on these was forwarded by ETBenson -who was certainly GOP stock- and mentioned all these -that the US would be'saved' by the west, which has already happened with IT etc, and the state will fight against state.....maybe over heatlh care? no j/k..
  20. The TB that illegal catches is just as contagious as the TB you pick up from him and can get treatment for. It would be better though if they treated that illegal and he didn't pass it onto you. But TB isn't that common so maybe the example should be hepA or B or just the common flue? At least we can agree on Hannity , but about the young man clearing 50k I think you missed the point here. Sure his priorities are screwed but he is still uninsured and in that estimate of 40 mil those 'lefties' talk about. Plus there will always be irresponsible youth in all countries, that's why they are 'young', but countries that have a health system safety net can pick him up if the worst happens during his years of foolishness but in america he will most likely end up a bankrupt, and that assuming a hospital will actually fix both broken legs and arms completely after his car crash. After this small 'discussion' here (with majority right wingers) I'm more convinced than before that what seems to be happening now in american culture is an almost obsession with the individual and individual rights above any government or community agreements, except if you need to support a foreign war run by that same government. Ironic that bit. So then this 'individualism' above all trumps any community safety net and, in my book, will end up destroying any national unity. But then again that's what the prophesies say about the US, right? after wasting its youth and treasure on foreign wars it will then fall apart? Shame though that so many mormons seem to support this slow destruction of the USA, supporting illegal wars, like Iraq, stopping any improvements to general health care, even still quoting Reagan -who after all change america into the worlds biggest debtor entity. But Reagan spoke a lot about 'individual rights' and keeping government away right? ..Shame...
  21. The more I read about members experiences with re-sealing, the more I dislike the brethren's handling of this issue. It's just one big mess. They changed in the '70s the practice of getting a clearance from the first presidency for a temple recommend after divorce and its about time they changed the sealing policy after divorce and just let people get sealed to the new spouse without all this bureaucracy and hassles. After all they are supposed to judge what sinful behavior is and divorce is just the end of a marriage, not a sin.
  22. I think it was Moe who started insulting with his "You should get a Caldecott for your work" and previously "I'm not even convinced you have the cognitive capacity to interpret the complexity". His language was a thinly disguised personal attack, far from the issues discussed here. But note that I never said that Sadam was any good. By all accounts he was a monster. But its about the actions we take. Was there a justification for the invasion? Bush snr didn't think there were after removing Sadam from Kuwait, why bring up Kuwait now? Nor did I call Bush jnr a 'monster', he wasn't, but to think that he is blameless today after his reasons were shown to be false, plus the UN didn't agree with him, is what is naive. Bush was a war criminal, but only as a negligent leader whose actions saw many thousands loose their lives. That doesn't make him a Hitler nor a Sadam but he isn't entirely innocent either. Now if he had somehow lost that war he would probably be in court in the Hague today! But he didn't so only history will judge him.
  23. You can send me yours. But your view on that illegal Iraq war is..........still missing in action, right? You are the intelligent one here, right? or maybe I got you all wrong?
