A while back, I read a couple of books that told about the events leading up to Joseph Smith's martyrdom. It's been a while so the details are a little vague, but it seems like he did send for the Nauvoo Legion for protection, however, the man leading it was disgruntled with him at the time and didn't come. I also vaguely remember that he wasn't in the jail as a prisoner but at his own request for protection from the mob. One of these books also said that he did know that he wouldn't leave that jail alive.

Ephesians 5: 22: Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the Church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the Church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. It is evident that the Lord holds the man responsible for the success of the family. Although the man quite frequently takes the role of the irresponsible wuss and passes the pants on to the wife, he is still held responsible for the family, and he will answer for his delinquency. I think too many people are blinded by modern traditions. They are beginning to take on a mind-set that certain things are no longer applicable because they are somwhat inconvenient to abide by as a result of changing times. But ask yourself this: Does the Almighty God answer to man? Does He change His eternal principles to conform to the ever changing traditions of man? A little absurd don't you think? The early leaders taught that plural marriage would be lived in the hereafter; that it was eternal. Assuming those men were true prophets of God, one must accept that doctrine as being true; as there was no room left for speculation. It was quite forcefully taught as being true. This being said, wouldn't a revelation saying otherwise only expose a false prophet? According to the book of Abraham, our time reckoning compared to the time reckoning of Heaven is 1000 to 1 respectively. In other words, one year in Heaven is equal to 1000 years on Earth. This makes 100 years on earth slightly over 1 month in Heaven. Now imagine all of the change that has taken place in the world in the past 100 years. If those changes were also made in the traditions of heaven wouldn't that be a confusing place to live? There would be a change every ten minutes or so. Again, does God answer to man?

Vote for pedro. Forget the ugly tree, you were beaten with the ugly forest! Never under estimate the power stupid people in large groups. Money talks. Mine always says "goodbye." I used up all my sick days so I'm calling in dead. The voices in my head are telling me that you're crazy. I live off in my own little world; but it's okay, they know me here. Have a nice day :)

Is Your Belief In God Rational? Fun Quiz. . . . .

I think the test was rigged. I clearly told it that I didn't think it was right to torture the innocent, however, when I said it was wrong for the serial rapist to do his thing because he had an inner conviction that it was God's will, it gave me a hit. It was clearly designed by atheists to trap religionists. Anyway, who is to say that the rapist wasn't just using that as an excuse? Until they knew the true inner convictions of this rapist, I don't think they can rightfully use that in the test. My inner convictions tell me that he was just a lustful rapist. His very actions tell me that he wasn't convinced he was doing God's will because he raped and killed them because they were prostitutes. Wouldn't raping them be much the same basic sin as prostitution? Now if he just killed them, his mental state might be more believable. -
While we're telling stupid jokes, what is the first thing an orange does when you set it on the table? It looks round.

The way I see it is that the Lord has a set time for everyone to live, however, people can choose to step off of that path. When someone commits suicide, they are choosing not to follow the plan that the Lord had for them. This might also apply to how healthy we eat. But I believe when someone dies as a result of events which they couldn't control, it was their time to go.
-
I absolutely agree. I also like a little saying by Ron White. "In Texas, we have the death penalty and we use it. That's right, if you kill someone in Texas, we will kill you back."
-
I think the death penalty is a good thing. I think it is a waste of tax dollars to house mass murderers. I don't think it can be called murder to execute a murderer. It would be called justice. You must look at it from the victim's point of view and also the point of view of the victim's family. What exactly is someone doing when they take a person's life? They are literally taking away everything that person has or ever will have. They are also robbing that person of their chance to prove theirself. Not to mention what is taken from that person's family. And for what? Most of the time it's either love or money. Someone is willing to rob someone of everything they have to satisfy their own selfishness and gain either love or money for theirself. Murder is selfishness in the worst extreme. Yes I think someone who intentionally goes to this extreme is worthy of death. However they should definitely be given the benefit of the doubt. But that's just me. (but then I think hackers are worthy of death also) However, if they are going to execute someone, they had better make dang sure that person is guilty. I think many lawyers are guilty of murder. Many of them, when they handle a case, are not concerned about justice, they are only concerned about winning so they can improve their name. And they are willing to legally murder someone to satisfy this selfish ambition. I think the justice system needs an overhaul. I think we need to find a way to make so that lawyers don't get paid according to haw many cases they have won. Perhaps they should have a set pay scale so that money is not all they see when they take a case. I know if I was a lawyer, if solid evidence was uncovered that proved my client guilty, I would drop the case. This is probably why I would fail as a lawyer.

So I guess we'll have to go back to using the "swiss army rock" Here's another point to consider: If they took away all of our guns, of course we all know that the felons would still get them on the black market, however, only then the law abiding citizens would be left defenseless. Muggings and robberies would go through the roof.

Yes, I have heard of him before. If my memory serves me correctly, it seems like Oliver Cowdery was one of the men who followed him. If I'm wrong about this, I would welcome being set straight. I think it is beneficial to study those people, because it gives you the opportunity to decide what is right and what is wrong.

Who were the "Mothmen"? I have seen the movie 'The Mothmen Prophecies' but that is all I have heard about them. This movie was supposedly based on a true story. -
Yeah, what they said!!! I hope it is one to remember. :)

I can defenitely relate to them, I used to work in a coal mine. It is certainly a different and dangerous line of work. I am happy to see that most of them were alive.

Actually, the traveler pointed out in another thread that the dinosaurs were structurally unsound for the current earth gravity. (interesting fellow, he is) This being the case, something must have been drastically different with the earth from our time, and the time the dinosaurs were here. It is my understanding that a planet's gravity is directly proportional to its size. Therfore, the earth must have been much smaller in order to support the dinosaurs. Hence, man and dinosaur must not have inhabited the earth at the same time.

Here's something I have seen five times that has me curious, and perhaps some of you have seen it also: I will be standing out under the night sky, when suddenly the sky will light up. I will look up and see what appears to be a huge spotlight that folds back and goes dim; after which, it looks like just another star; however it then begins to move slowly. As it moves it gets dimmer and dimmer until it's no longer visible. It may be a government experiment but whatever the case, it appears to be some sort of surveillance device. One thought I had on it is that perhaps there are other civilizations out there, however, according to my beliefs, if they were allowed to have such technology, they would have be close enough to God that they would follow certain rules and not interfere with other worlds. Therfore, they would be here observing the events taking place in the last days of this world.

The truth is God is from everlasting to everlasting; unchangeable, without beginning of days or end of years. How could we place our faith in a God who would have a different standard for us to live up to every day? We would do our best to live up to the standards we were given only to find that we didn't make the grade because the standard changed. Although times may change, the requirements for salvation and exaltation will never change. (Brigham Young)
-
The question I have is this: Were you under the impression that God was a changing God?

Galatians 1: 8-9 “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. The gospel, according to my understanding, is the laws of God. So if they are tampered with by man, let that man be accursed. God is from everlasting to everlasting; unchangeable; without beginning of days or end of years. Times may change, but the the requirements for salvation and exaltation will always remain the same.

I do believe in continuing revelation as long as it does not contradict previous revelation. Such a notion would insinuate that the current prophet could cancel out the teachings of the Saviour. Or ask yourself this question: If the current leader said "The highest law is no longer 'love the Lord thy God with all thy heart might mind and strength', the highest law is now 'thou shalt not steal.' Would you believe it? To me, such an idea is outrageous.

This makes me think of a dinosaur quarry I visited near Vernal Utah. First of all, if you were to fly over eastern Utah and look down on it, it would appear like a huge water run off of some sort. Now we know that Utah was once under lake Bonneville so that may explain the run off look. But at this dinosaur quarry, there is a cliff that is completely riddled with bones. They built a building around it and made a display out of it for a tourist attraction. And now practically every business in the area has the word 'dinosaur' in the name. But I was looking at this cliff riddled with bones and I realized, these particular dinosaurs did not starve to death, or freeze to death. They did not die from lack of sun light or water. These particular dinosaurs died in a huge mud slide. Now what other major aquatic event do we have record of than the great flood. We know that Noah would not have wanted to cart the dinosaurs along on his boat. Keep in mind that this is just an idea. So there will be no bone-heads jumping to any conclusions and assuming that I demand that this is the law.

Dude, you really need to extract the stick. ← Could you explain what you mean by this? Please be as specific and graphic as necessary. I think you are trying to insult me since you can't rationally explain your invalid position, but please feel free to prove me wrong on that point. ← I'll let you use your imagination on This one. It could even be a good thing if you want it to be. I really don't see why you think my position is invalid. It's perfectly clear to me. I think Joseph Smith brought his personal opinion to the table less than Brigham Young did. And Since I have only heard that Joseph Smith instigated the priesthood ban but I cannot find anything to verify it, my position remains neutral and will remain so until I find something to either support it or prove it wrong. Is this clear enough for you? Anyway, which one do you think was in the wrong out of J.S., B.Y., or S.W.K.? On a further note, what is the deal with you? When did I offend you; that would warrant such attacks?

To heck with the ugly stick, you were beaten with the ugly forest.

She said "we're much too different, we're from two separate worlds" And he admitted "she was partly right" In his hearts defense he told her what they had in common, and it was strong enough to bond them for life. He said "look behind your own soul, and the person that you'll see just might remind you of me" "I laugh, I love, I hope, I try, I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry. And I know you do the same things too. So we're really not that different, me and you." Now she could hardly argue with his pure and simple logic, but logic never could convince a heart. She had always dreamed of loving someone more exotic, and he just didn't seem to fit the part. So she searched for greener pastures but never could forget What he whispered when she left, "I laugh, I love, I hope, I try, I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry; And I know you do the same things too. So we're really not that different, me and you." Was it time? was it truth? Maybe both led her back to his door. And as her tears fell at his feet, she didn't say "I love you" What she said meant even more; "I laugh, I love, I hope, I try, I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry. And I know you do the same things too. So we're really not that different, me and you."
