Neither are same-sex marriages accepted or condoned by our Church. If other churches were less concerned about fitting into society, and more concerned about how they will fit into heaven, this wouldn't be an issue. Methinks there are some who are working like the devil to get into heaven. ;-)

People I know who have gone on senior trips loved it, but it is regimented and you're on a time restraint. That would be very restrictive, and not something I would be interested in personally. Venice would be awesome!

In 1998, President Gordon B. Hinckley made the following statement about the Church's position on plural marriage: "This Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy. They are not members of this Church. . . . If any of our members are found to be practicing plural marriage, they are excommunicated, the most serious penalty the Church can impose. Not only are those so involved in direct violation of the civil law, they are in violation of the law of this Church."

Winnie, If it were me, I would take many short trips to areas I have always wanted to visit...perhaps a week long cruise to the Carribeans, and flying to Hawaii for a week. And I would schedule our kids to accompany us, if possible. There are so many wonderful places to visit within our own country. I would fly to NY, San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego; rent a motor home and drive to Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, etc. And I would visit our relatives in other states. Bon voyage! - Mrs. A

Is Tongues-speech A Human Foreign Language?
Aristotle replied to prisonchaplain's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
As a teenager, I attended a meeting at my girlfriends' church. In the middle of the meeting, I beheld people getting up from their seats, standing in the aisles, writhing and moaning something unintelligible. A feeling of doom swept over me, and I got this horrific pain in my head. All I could think of was to get out. Right after I left, the darkness disappeared and my headache vanished. In the Bible, we are taught: "By their fruit ye shall know them." I believe those people were demon-possessed, and the spirit gave me a very clear warning to flee. - Mrs. A -
Is Tongues-speech A Human Foreign Language?

When missionaries learn a new language in the mission home, isn't that a form of "speaking in tongues"? Many must learn a foreign language in such a relatively short time, that I believe the missionaries are truly blessed with the ability to learn these languages so quickly. During a missionary homecoming, members look forward to hearing the missionary bear their testimony in the language they learned in the mission home. Generally, the missionary translates his/her testimony so that everyone can understand what was said in the foreign tongue. -

Remember the movie, "Sybil"...based upon a true story...portrayed by Sally Field. Sybil had many personalities, which stemmed from sexual abuse as a child...and not from a clergyman! -

Absolutely brilliant! I like the mother-in-law one: "Woman Hitler" ... LOL Something just struck me funny...if men practiced polygamy, how many women Hitlers he would have running his life...it might just be divine justice afterall. ;-)

I think these apply: Mosiah 4: 27 27 And see that all these things are done in wisdom and aorder; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order. Ne. 4: 34 34 O Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever. I will not put my trust in the arm of flesh; for I know that cursed is he that putteth his trust in the arm of flesh. Yea, cursed is he that putteth his trust in man or maketh flesh his arm. 1 Cor. 2: 5 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 2 Ne. 32: 9 9 But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul. Now to answer your other questions: Are all callings in the Church necessarily from God? NO. Are there times when it is appropriate and acceptable to refuse callings? Absolutely. You are allowed and expected to receive person revelation. If you receive the revelation that you shouldn't take a calling, then don't. I have always asked my bishop if I could go home and pray about the calling first. He has never refused me this response. Thank you very much for that incite and wisdom, Syble. I agree!

Sorry, I can't resist. ;-) Save your breath. You'll need it to blow up your date. ~~~~~ I'm trying to imagine you with a personality. ~~~~~ I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce. ~~~~~ You look like a million bucks! (All green and wrinkled.) ~~~~~ Why don't you slip into something more comfortable...like a coma. ~~~~~ I never forget a face...but in your case I'll make an exception! ~~~~~ Wanted: Meaningful Overnight Relationship ~~~~~ I was born at night but not last night. ~~~~~ If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong. ~~~~~ I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was going to blame it on you! ~~~~~ My answer is right it is your question that is wrong. ~~~~~ Body by Fisher-Price, Brains by Mattel. ~~~~~ His antenna doesn't pick up all the channels. ~~~~~ His belt doesn't go through all the loops. ~~~~~ If brains were taxed, he'd get a rebate. ~~~~~ If you stand close enough to him, you can hear the ocean. ~~~~~ Proof that evolution CAN go in reverse. ~~~~~ Some drink from the fountain of knowledge; he only gargled. ~~~~~ Takes him 2 hours to watch 60 Minutes. ~~~~~ Mental cases need a checkup from the neckup.

Do LDS in China murder their baby girls because it is government mandated? I do know that Christians in China are very much persecuted, but I just wonder where one draws the line when subjected to an evil and corrupt government. As for polygamist marriages, it tends to beat the women down into submission, as they are viewed more as property (cattle-like). I doubt that the Russian women will escape this mindset and treatment. -
What I found was that so much of what I was writing about had to do with changing other people. What I learned years later, is that you can't change other people...you can only change your reaction to them.

In my opinion, "forgetting the sin" is more apt to pertain to clergy. How can a clergyman possibly remember all of the sins of his congregation?

In the past, I wrote in my journal religiously, never missing a day. The result was ending up with volumes and volumes of journals (now stored in boxes and more boxes). Several times, I read from different volumes...sort of a "blast from the past"...and what I noticed was that year after year I wrote about the same old thing. LOL I'm working on a pictorial journal now, which won't be so boring, hopefully. BTW, I loved the ideas from the sites Winnie recommended.
