  1. I just moved into a new Ward about 4 months ago. I just found out from the YM President that my new Stake does the RS every other year. How great! I know the Stake I was last in (for 10 years) never did it. I wonder if it's just preference by Stake Presidents or what? Anyhow, I am excited to hear it.
  2. Should it not be, "Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your pants."? Wedding Singer: "Pants stinks, yeah, yeah. Pants stinks, yeah, yeah." A Few Good Men: "You can't handle the pants!" Lethal Weapon: "I'm getting too old for pants"
  3. If you go to LDS.org and do a general search for "Roadshow" a number of articles from church publication (i.e. New Era) come up. However, most of them come from the late-70s to mid-80s. It would be nice if the church brought this program back. It think it was really good for the youth.
  4. I am the Elders Quorum teacher right now and I can tell you that the new manual is a lot more difficult to teach from due to the lesson itself. Try filling 45 min with a 2.5 (1/4 page) lesson. I had to encourage discussion in Elders Quorum on Sunday or it would have been a 20 min lesson. I am sure no one would object to getting out early. For next week I plan to go to LDS.org and pulling Ensign/Conference talks to use in the lessons to fill time. Lots better then Quoting Hugh Nibly on the Nature of God. That's for sure.
  5. I cannot think of any movies off the top of my head that were not meant to be Mormon movies (i.e Singles Ward). However, the TV show Yes Dear had an episode where the missionaries tracked into them and the rest of the episode was about them.
  6. I think that for as much harms way LDS Missionaries can be in people overall still respect what they do. Even if they do not like the church or are even religious. When I was on my mission we were yelled at, spit at, given rude gestures, and even had things thrown at us. But never once was I ever in fear of being attacked or anything like that. For as many LDS Missionaries there are in the world at any given time it is amazing though. On rare occasions do we hear about them being attacked, more often they will be robbed more then anything. The biggest portion of self defense comes from the Holy Ghost and listening to his promptings.
  7. This might seem a bit TOO vindictive, but it might be worth a shot. I might consider tracking down your boss' wife and tell her what he wanted you to do. Or you could write your old boss and tell him that you might just "think" about letting his wife know what he asked you to do. Be funny how fast you are asked to come back.
  8. Well, I am not a sister. I would imagine if it were said then it would be a General RS Conference or something. Regardless to say though. When everyone in the Ward rose their hand to sustain the Bishop and he says dresses then its dresses, right? I might go talk with the Stake President if you have issues with how much fabric is required to wear around your legs though.
  9. Hey Everyone – When I joined the Church in 1995 I was in the Young Men's program. That year we did a Road Show in our Stake in Southern California. I am not sure if the Church still supports/encourages Wards and States to do these. I know I have not heard about them being done in the last 10 years though. For those who do not know what a Road Show is; every year there was a theme given and the youth and many times parents/adults would put together a play on that theme. This play might have been about 30 min or so. They would have a cast, crew, and were produced much like any other play. Then the performers would travel around a Stake or even an area and put the plays on. I am writing a 200ish page essay on the current culture in the LDS church. Much of this will be on the activities that are held. What it is that I am looking for are stories about these Road Shows. Personal experiences people had while working with a Road Show or even seeing a Road Shows. This might be spiritual in nature, something funny that happened, or even something that you or others might not be so proud of. Anything is up for sharing. Please share any stories or experiences you or others had while putting these shows together or putting them on. Thanks! Dennis
  10. I have been looking into this topic more as of late. I have tried to find books on the topic and have come up short. There is a great book by Maxwell called The Enoch Lettersor Enoch the Prophetby Nibley. However, I am a bit less interested in the Prophet or the people, but the city itself. I have heard that the city was "taken up" or actually removed from the earth and also that the inhabitants were simply "translated". There is little information out there about this great city what was called Zion. I am looking for a "High Priest Group" discussion here. No thought or theory is too outlandish or odd on this one, ok? Thanks. Dennis
  11. I find it interesting that no one has mentioned Peleg in this discussion. In Genesis 10:25 we read, "And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan." Something to ponder, eh? How can the earth be divided if at one point in recorded history it was not one? Dennis
