  1. Cool! I knew there was another group involved with the Monsters and Mormons anthology, but I wasn't familiar with them.

It is listed on our site as "coming Oct 2011, now taking submissions" along with the others we have published.

  2. Thanks for the posts. Urbanfool actually inspired me and I just received my createspace proof yesterday. I'm going to check it over and hopefully have it approved in the next couple days. I'll post when it's ready.

Kindle is in my sights next, but I need to finish up my submission for motleyvision.org's "Monsters and Mormons" anthology first.

There's definitely a growing market for LDS centered lit, although I found the publishing process tedious (thus posting my book online instead). I thought about looking for an agent, but couldn't find an LDS specific one. Miztrniceguy/imon or anyone else do that sort of thing? I have a few other books in the works.

Imon....The upcoming book "Monsters and Mormons" is by Peculiar Pages, an imprint of B10mediaworx, which is my wife's business.

  3. I help people sell their books for the Kindle. I can help you with formatting, a cover and or any other part of the process.

You can set your book up for free on Amazon but the minimum price you can offer it is $0.99.

Let me know if you have any questions?

My wife does this full time and also just about any other format offered. She just quit her previous home business to focus on it full time. Her wait list is about 2 weeks long unless they want to pay a premium to move to the frot of the line.

  4. It can be challenging working from home. My wife has been doing it for 7 years. Until recently doing medical transcription. She stopped that to concentrate fully on our publishing/media company converting other peoples books into different e-book formats for them to sell. Since people are lining up for her to work with them she doesn't get a lot of time. We are fortunate to have a house and have an office space.

Her biggest challenge is people who don't understand she is WORKING not just hanging around the house...."No I'm sorry Sister Smith you cannot drop by in 10 minutes for an unscheduled visit." "No I'm sorry Sisters, I cannot drop what I'm doing to go out with you to visit an investigator". Why don't people understand that? They wouldn't stop by anyone's office outside the home for the same request.

  5. I did a temple service mission about three years ago, and I came across someone doing exactly this. One of the temple workers mentioned it to the temple president, who in turn took the brother aside and asked him not to do it in future as 1. it is a potential distraction to other patrons and 2. The idea of the endowment is to watch what is going on, as it's commonly said that you pick up new information every time that you go in. If you are reading your scriptures, you aren't giving as much attention to the endowment as you otherwise could be.

Now I don't know if this is a rule, but I do know that my temple president (who had also been a temple president in a different temple prior to his current mission) stopped it from happening. I trusted his judgement on this.

    Makes sense to me.

  6. My attitudes have been shaped by my ancestry. My great grandfather was the secretary (CEO) of the United Order in Brigham City. I believe that we, by covenant, should encourage, sustain and support the labors (and businesses) of our covenant brothers and sisters.

I have no more regrets in doing this than in paying tithing and fast offerings.

    The Traveler

I will do so to the extent that they treat me fairly. I do this for all our brothers and sisters, both in and out of the gospel.

  7. I tend to do business with people by their reputation, not by their faith. Here, there are not that many LDS owned businesses (at least that I am aware of). Lots of doctors, dentists, or contractors and people working for large companies like Cerner or the like. My contractor is a member, but he has a great reputation and did a great job on a bathroom remodel and our gutters, now doing our porch
