  1. That sounds encouraging, I had forgotten about this verse. thanks.
  2. If this is literally true then paradise could not possibly occur.
  3. I think that (at least aspects of) the true will of God can be reverse-engineered from the single criterion measure of the success of the Master Plan: Maximize Joy. If we diligently seek these aspects, the Holy Spirit will most effectively fill in the missing details. Test this and see if it rings true or false. I will trust anything said that was spiritually discerned. I am striving for more humility, please be patient with me. This bears repeating: I hereby humbly submit to the will of God.
  4. Moroni 7:47 47 But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him. Taking the bible by itself (as most all non-LDS do) The above perfect meaning of the Greek word {agape} is not nearly so clear. For the sake of people new to the church that are not intimately aware of the above verse, it may be better to always provide the meaning {the pure love of Christ} the first time that the English word "charity" is ever read. otherwise the common meaning may be taken as the intended meaning: 1. generous actions or donations to aid the poor, ill, or helpless: to devote one's life to charity. For the most part I have found that most all of my LDS friends always already do this.
  5. Whatever is confirmed by the spirit is truth. If that is what the spirit confirms for you, then that is the truth for you. The reason that I remain with the LDS is that receptiveness to the Holy Spirit is their strongest strength. I currently have the testimony that the LDS church is the most righteous church on Earth.
  6. That is very excellent. So the LDS conception attached to the English word "charity" is (what seems to me to be) a perfect conception of what God has intended. Also the LDS convention of saying {the pure love of Christ} very often when the word charity is read hits the mark. The common meaning of the English word "charity" however, does not come very close to the mark. Even the common meaning of the English word "love" gets closer. Neither of these single words, however are as apt as the LDS convention of saying "the pure love of Christ" whenever the English word "charity" is read. Perhaps now we may be in the same spirit on this one?
  7. It might be the case that the best way to translate the Greek word [agape] is the way that most LDS say {the pure Love of Christ}. charity 1. generous actions or donations to aid the poor, ill, or helpless: to devote one's life to charity. love 1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
  8. I think that the way that most LDS say it "The pure Love of Christ" may be best.
  9. "It would be an extremely rare occasion." Unambiguously indicates an openess to possibilities. This openess is leagues ahead of John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
  10. It seems that substituting the word "charity" when "Love" is intended weakens the message.
  11. He that hath an ear, the him hear the word of God. Not as a commandment but wisdom for the wise.
  12. If you think it is worthy, then test it, otherwise do whatever you think is best.
  13. That sound pretty reasonable and open minded. You are open to the possibility, that is very good.
  14. I am been an LDS investigator for over three years, attending church every week. I currently have the testimony the that LDS church is the most righteous church on Earth. It may be the case that some church doctrine is not quite infallible. It might be possible that someone else can at least upon rare occasion speak on behalf of the Holy Spirit to the whole world. Please test this with the spirit for yourselves and see if you can get confirmation: The Greek word {agape} word translated in the King James bible as charity is translated incorrectly and should be read as one of the following: (a) Love (b) The pure love of Christ © Unconditional love.
  15. I ran into an extremely stubborn sister missionary once. I never ran into any "I am holier than thou" type. I am estimating that the Holy Spirit might send this type of individual an unequivocal message that LDS is not the right place for them. It would seem to me that the two things that may prevent this within the LDS church are: (1) The doctrine of the spirit of contention. (2) The focus on humility by everyone that I have met, thus setting the right example. Is a focus on humility ever mentioned as a key doctrine of LDS?
  16. It is very good that you limited that to a personal opinion. This sort of humility is what is required to remain extremely receptive to the Holy Spirit. That is what I like about the LDS church the most, it seems that its members are far more humble and thus receptive to the Holy Spirit than any other church. I have never encountered any instance of self-righteousness by any of the members of the LDS church. I can not say this about the Pentecostal church that I belonged to for many years.
  17. That is pretty clear. It looks like there is substantial humility in the church leaders. I want to find the exact boundary of this and that is why I pose this next question: Is it possible that every prophet and leader of the church (past and present) could be in complete agreement on a specific aspect of doctrine, and all of them be at least slightly wrong, or is this considered to be completely and totally impossible?
  18. Could this possibly indicate that a little bit of humility was lost between now and then? If there have been no indications by any of the church leadership that errors were ever made recently this might not be a good thing. Alternatively it might be possible that in modern times the church leaders continue to validate their message for several months before ever presenting it, thus make far fewer errors, and the ones made are very small. To what degree do church leaders of modern times indicate any errors that they may have made?
  19. Why not in modern day? If the leaders of the church never ever acknowledge their error this might not be a good thing.
  20. That is exactly the point that I was trying to confirm. A key reason why I consider the LDS church to be at least the most righteous church on Earth is that its members and leaders are humble enough to take correction. I have found that this humility is much more consistent in the LDS church members and leaders than any other church I have ever encountered. United by the spirit for righteousness sake.
  21. Very excellent. That is exactly it. Would Brigham Young have been the prophet at the time?
  22. Well I guess that I forgot this. It was a weekend night so I remembered it incorrectly.
  23. The priesthood session of the general (rather than stake) conference.
  24. So the prophet could provide a message that he thought was from the Holy Spirit and later change his mind?
