That is actually very true that women will use duct tape to create cleavage in a backless dress. The best fun that I have ever witnessed was people using the varied colors of duct tape to create medieval outfits. Also if you are making clothing for yourself and you want to get accurate measurements, you create a duct tape dummy of your body. We love duct tape around my house and my favorite color to use is the purple!

Dear Sanger- I admire those that wish to come to America to further their education, but in these cases the laws of the land come into play. You have to go through the application process to get a green card for education and you have to be accepted to a school. OR you have to find someone like an employer to sponsor you for entry into this country. Where are you from? What I would do, is speak to your Bishop, stake president, branch president and have them assist you. The website for BYU might also have information pertaining to foreign students as well. Good luck in your quest for knowledge

I feel that if you are even talking to God that is a good sign and I don't think he really cares too much as to how he gets the prayers. Basically I pray whenever I get the chance outside of my regular prayers (my night prayers, meal time etc.) When I am in my vehicle, I like to think Heavenly Father is in my passenger seat and I like to "talk" to him. I feel as though that gives me time to think about a problem that has been bothering me and I can talk it out and then usually a solution does present itself. I am more informal about my prayers than my husband. For him, praying is actually kneeling on the bedside. I grew up Catholic and I am grateful that we don't do as I fondly call it, "the Catholic Cheer!" "Stand up, sit down, Stand up sit down, kneel, kneel, kneel."

Your prayers and good thoughts are working! My dear beloved husband got through the first round of the major interview today! They are so impressed with him, that they have put him at the top of the list to be given a technical interview! He commented that when he was on the verge of panicking, he stopped and regrouped for a moment and then the answer came to him. I know that was the Spirit assisting him to calm his nerves. The spirit confirmed to us awhile back that are time in our current place is short and that we will be moving to a new place that we will be calling home. Home... that has such a nice ring to it. So, please continue to keep me and my little family close to your hearts and I will continue to let you know the progress of this avenue of pursuit. This Sunday, me and my family are going to do a 3-hour fast (can't fast beyond that for medical reasons) and we will as a family have family prayer, individual prayer, as well as cherishing the blessing of being a family. Thank you once again.

1 interview down and 1 to go tomorrow! So far, everything is going well. Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts on behalf of my family. I will let everyone know as to what is happening. I think my mustard seed is now at least the size of a sunflower seed with everyone's support and encouragement.

Good greetings one and all this evening. I would like to ask that you say a little prayer for my family and most especially my dear husband. He is getting ready to interview with 2 large companies Thursday and Friday. The position is what he has wanted to do since graduation from university 6 years ago. I truly believe that this is his time to shine! And my fondest wish is for him to fulfill his dream. We have contacted our favorite Temples and submitted our family. I am asking for your good thoughts and prayers. Thanks so much!

Smells good... tastes yucky! I prefer Decaf Chai Tea with Sugar-Free vanilla syrup. To me, it reminds me of warm pumpkin pie with whipped cream if it is done right

I was getting my son ready for school and the phone rang. My husband called me and told me to stay home because WTC got hit. At that time, we lived really close to Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs. Then I turned on the TV and saw both buildings collapse. I think seeing them collapse hit me more than watching the plane smash into the buildings. But for me the attack on the Pentagon hit really close to home. My cousin was a stenographer at the Pentagon and he said that morning he had major car trouble and so after trying to figure out what was wrong with the car, he called in but found out that the Pentagon had been hit. He quickly turned on the TV and started to freak out. He was supposed to be in the office that morning taking notes where the nose cone of the plane hit. He has never had any trouble out of the car since then. Very much divine intervention. So, he and his wife retired and are the caretakers of the their church's cemetary and memory garden.

So these wines that are made from scratch - they have no alcohol in them? The cordials you make have no alcohol in them? They are not alcoholic in any way shape or form? ***Not sarcastic here, just curious*** I was merely answering a query about the wines that were consumed by friends. Nothing more... nothing less. And yes, when I do make the cordials I use Vodka. And no I do not consume any form of alcohol not because of the Word of Wisdom, but because there is practically a straight pipe to my liver and I have a greater chance of dying from alcohol poisoning than most people. To me, living is a greater principle than the Word of Wisdom in this case.

What a wonderful treasure to have! A journal from a family member that made the trek! Thank you for the information. I a slowly getting more information together because I will probably have to practice a few of the recipes before the event. Thank you Thanks for the website! It is a start and I have found some resources like sourdough starters and stuff. I will keep looking

Okay, you're confusing me Sabran. Wasn't the whole point of your "Cheesed Off" thread, to make it known what bothered you about other members actions or even non-actions. Were you not in the least judging them, because their imperfections bothered you a little. Don't get me wrong, I understand about judging other people, especially other parents; I always compare how other parents teach their children. I'm just confused about you're are not wanting to be judged yourself. Everybody does it. The only exception IMO, is when others seem to be a bit self-righteous in their judgements of others and are totally blind to their own imperfections. M. No, they were not judgements, they were observations. To me, a judgement is calling someone on the carpet about their actions, words, or deeds, and never said anyone is specific. I merely stated an observation that was never acted upon. Never said a word to those folks, just kept it to myself until now on this board. And to this day, I have never made a comment to those folks about their kids. What has come out of that discussion is that a few people have emailed me and have given me suggestions on the way to handle those kinds of situations when the arise! That was a personal attack on me make public and to my "e-face" for a lack of better terminology. I hope that has stopped the confusion for ya!

Really - no other additives? Do these wine drinking acquaintances of yours make their own wine or do they remove the sugars, tanins, acids and minerals that are added into purchased wines? Most of the wines they drink are made from scratch, so there are no modern day processes at work for the wines. I am not aware that wines have tanins in them. If you have a source of that, I would like to see it. (Not being snotty, but interested from a researching point of view) The grapes that are used in these wines are already sweetened, but there is honey added to some of them. So again nothing processed or refined.

Does anyone have any knowledge of websites or books that have references to what the pioneers ate on the trek to Utah? Things I am looking for is- The way they might have baked bread on the trail. Wild game and fowl recipes (We are planning to buy the deer, rabbit, etc. to cook!) Food preservation What I am looking for is recipes to reproduce for a possible Pioneer Day celebration.

Baloney! What a bunch of hypersensitive, I'm-a-victim-of-somebody-else's-behavior-that-is-not-as-good-as-my-own tripe. The ward clerk made a remark that you didn't like. BIG DEAL. Looking at your self-righteous, superficial rant, I can easily imagine that you make lots of comments that other people don't like. Grow a spine. So some kids were acting like kids. Big deal. That's why they call em kids - cuz they act that way. So who died and left you as Chief of Policing Sacrament Talks? I like to talk about great historical figures and like to hear about them. Some one gets a wild hair that unless other members of the Church follow their particular prescription for learning and teaching the gospel, they those other members don't appreciate Christ like they appreciate Christ. MALARKY! Name one single member of the Church that worships Joseph Smith. Go ahead. I'll wait. Name one single member of the Church that 'loves, adores, and respects' Brigham Young and Gordon B. Hinckley the same as Heavenly Father. Go on. I'm waiting. You pretend to understand the private thoughts of others and ascribe motives to their behavior. That's a crock. Thank you for showing your humbleness, compassion, and love of Christ to another human being let alone a church member. If I wanted comments like these, I would consulted an anti-Mormon. I never said anything about "knowing the private thoughts of others", but actions speak volumes over words. Please continue to sit in the judgement chair over MY obervations and frustrations. I am so glad we have perfect church members like you to sit and condemn another person's thoughts. What if I were to give you names? Would you like their addresses as well, so you can go to them and say, " I read this on the Internet about you, it is true?" I sure love being belittled and berated by someone who has NEVER met me, doesn't know my situation, and really doesn't care about my spiritual well-being, but putting me in place is the right thing to do! At least to my credit, I never slammed anyone to their "face" in the church whether in person or online. So, again thank you for a spiritual beating. I hope you feel better because you got to tell me how wrong I am !

Hi Sharyl! I am a little lost as what you are looking for about being an LDS woman? Are you looking for what our role as women in the Church is or what duties we can assume responsibility for. To further your quest for knowledge, would it be possible for you to be a little more specific? Thanks

If I have seemed like I am being snippy in my posts. But I had a religion teacher at Ricks College (old habits die hard) that said- when we speak about things that are mentioned in the Scriptures, please be accurate and use the knowledge of words to make the truth of the words more clear. He is also the one who told me, don't go on heresay when it comes to the Scriptures. When you hear something that is wierd or off-key (he was a guitar player as well) please ask that member to find that source for you. This isn't a method to embarrass that person, but you would really like to know where that piece of information came from because WHO KNOWS- you just might have to give a talk on that very subject some day. I do want to thank all of you for helping me find my voice again among church members. While it is true that the communication is over the Internet, I feel that it will help me deal with members more effectively in the future. It is an extremely hard row to hoe to come back to the Church and I will get there, because all of you have sparked something in me one way or another. I will continue to post clear up until it is time for us to move on Halloween day! because I find these discussions very thought provoking and I have gained support and encouragement. Then when we get settled, I will join right back in. Thank you

I am sorry but there is a major difference between the two words, and not all revelations were commandments. For example- The entire book of Revelations was just that... the foretelling of events to happen in order to prepare for the 2nd coming. I have yet to see in the Book of Revelations that these events are "commanded" to happen but are going to happen without Heavenly Father's say because of how wicked the world is going to truly become. A revelation is an act of revealing to view or making known A commandment is a directive that is given authoritatively D&C 89:2 2: "To be sent greeting; not by commandment or constraint, but by revelation "
-
as for the wine, it is a commandment. i have seen loved ones die from the effects of alcholism. no room for moderation in my book, follow the commandments. I have to differ with this comment. It is not a commandment but revelation without constraint. D&C 89:2 Don't want to seem nicky picky, but too many things that have been said by the General Authorities have been taken out of their original context and put into commandment form.

I asked my hubby about your pondering question and he said that our testimonies are actually a reflection of ourselves. As we age, we grow in wisdom, maturity, and knowledge. With that people absorb a lot of information that does change our outlook on various topics. Sometimes the knowledge that we have accepted does change parts of our testimony, but for the most part the original building blocks are still there. They just get buried under the rubble of life, but they are still standing in 1 way or another unless you have completely rejected them. My hubby equated to the remodeling of a a house. It starts out small and simple, but through time we add another bedroom or get rid of a dining room, etc. The house has changed but the foundation is still there. And even with remodels we can get overwhelmed by the WHOLE project and we just have to walk away from it for awhile. But eventually we get back to putting the house together or completely dismantling it. Here is something for you- Did you know that approximately every 5-7 years our bodies go through psychological and physiological changes? Maybe our testimonies go through the same process but in a completely different way

______________________________________________________________________________________ I never did mention the Bishop of the ward... I said the ward clerk. I never said that I was expecting the members of the church to "put us up". We have just enough savings to move us and be set up comfortably in a place of residence for 3 months. The church's resources are better spent on those that need it and not on my family. I did not make any such request only made contact with the Church to let them be aware that they had new members moving into the area in less than 60 days and that we may need information about the area and questions answered, not a handout. Not mad... just concerned that more was perceived in my statements than that was actually there. It is my business when a child's gameboy's volume is turned up and the parent won't request it to be turned down. I never said that I spoke to that child... again more assumptions. It was my place- part of the Sunday School presidency. Outside of that, I only tell my children to get to class. Again more assumptions Look, the bottom line is that members of the church should be able to attend meetings in an environment that is conducive to the Spirit. I can understand people having cell phones for business. My husband carries a pager and puts it on vibrate as well as the cell phone. But things like the gaming systems with their volume up and the game echoing the words- "Die Die Die," are a major distraction. Who said I was worried about other people? What I have been stating is some things that I have been involved with or personally witnessed that are a bit frustrating. Trust me, I lose sleep over better things than Church members and my focus has always been on my family. But there is such words like manners and etiquette that still need to be displayed.

[ So for those people who irk you, who are not as "Mormon" as you think they should be, as "Righteous" as you think they should be, who aren't as "Reverent" as you think they should be, as "Saintly" as you feel they should be - stop and think- What did Jesus DO? He forgave them, and plead with His Father to forgive them too. Can you do less??? Are you really any better than they are? By complaining about their humaness, by finding fault in the human things that they do, by murmering? By being so negative that you chase the Holy Ghost from you? By being so self-righteous? From what I am reading, you really are no better than they are. Can you walk on water?! ________________________________________________________________________________ Did I say that I was better than them? No. I am commenting on the fact the members of the Church are showing more and more acts of BLATANT disrespect for our Heavenly Father's house and the members that attend his house for whatever the purpose may be. We as Church members have the right to have an environment that encourages us to listen to what is being said and not distracted too much. Besides, are we not to have higher standards because we are the true church upon the face of the Earth? Aren't we supposed to have higher standards because we are Heavenly Father's children who have accepted the Gospel, participated in the Temple and have gained greater knowledge? Has it not been said from the pulpit of general conference that we are held to a higher standard? (I will produce a source if need be.) Yes, Jesus would forgive them, but he would also admonish them for their unkindness to their fellow man. Let me get this straight- I am supposed to let people be rude and disrespectful to me. I am supposed to let members of the church stab me in the back. I am supposed to conform to their standards and I will be a much better person because I allow this to happen? Interesting. Am I better than them? Wow! I wouldn't know because I don't compare myself to others. What I have stated are experiences that have personally happened to me with interactions with Church members, and as a result of those negative experiences I am now being accused of murmuring. Again interesting. Self-righteous? Not in the least- Self awareness. I am seeing a trend that manners and reverance don't count anymore. I never claimed to be better than anyone else, but frustrated that people cannot extend the hand of kindness. Again, your claims of me being a disgruntled member of the Church because I am holding them to a higher standard and that standard is tact, concern and care, and just being aware of other people's feelings. Then yes, I will stand in front of my accusers on judgement day for that and that will be a judgement I freely accept as well as the penalties involved. And yes, I can walk on water. (I am being serious here.)

What in the world do you think fermented grapes are? It is wine. It is alcoholic. It is not to be drunk! Those members that are drinking it should not be. They are not obeying the WofW. Drinking Near Beer is against the WofW too, as is de-caffinated coffee/tea. First, don't lecture me on what alcholic beverages are. I am a cordial maker and I will answer to Heavenly Father without your help in the judgment zone and you don't have any right to tell another member of the Church what they should and should not be doing. We ALL have our imperfections, so let us work on our misgivings in our time. What is so difficult about obeying the Word Of Wisdom? What makes it so hard to do? Is it because people are so juvenile that they have to do what they are told not to do, that they have to rebel and do the opposite? When your children do that you discipline them and punish them. Guess what Father is going to discipline you and punish you too Being juvenile has nothing to do it. I really do take offense that you are making judgement calls for Heavenly Father. You have no right to say WHO Heavenly Father is going to discipline and punish. That is not for you to decide. YOU may not like wines, coffees, teas, etc but some people still have their imperfections to work on. As I will continue to work on my battle of compulsive eating I don't have a reference for this, but my Husband told me that for every 12 oz. bottle of carbonated soft drink that you consume you lose 24 oz of water from your body. For years I have drank anywhere from 1 to 12- 12 oz. cans of soda a day. For years I have been having muscle cramps. In my feet, legs, just under my shoulder blades, my midriff and even my chest . Then I marry Dear Husband, he is concerned over the amount of sodas I drink and my cramping. I was taking potassium to stop the cramps too - wasn't working. He asked me to stop the sodas and drink water/kool-aid/ Crystal Lite instead. Within a week the cramps stopped. Congratulations. You made a choice that worked out for you and you conquered a habit that wasn't conducive to your beliefs. I think in the end, Heavenly Father would rather have us piddly little habits than become sons and daughters of perdition.

Batt, Knock it off with the sarcastic attitude. I don't find it amusing when people start spouting off in that tone of voice via forums or emails. Personally, I have done more studying on the Bible from not only Church members, but a Jewish Rabbi, a Christian minister, and a Muslim and I have formed my own conclusions that will stay with me because I came to those conclusions on my own. I, personally have some problems with your statement, but you are entitled to believe how you see fit. However, don't start throwing out timetables and history of the Bible because you might as well be on the History Channel. Those facts and figures really don't mean much in the big picture.

Thanks for the apology, but none needed! But I do think you are missing the point I am making. Yes, I have acknowledged that the Prophets are needed to carry Heavenly Fathers' word, but they don't deserve the same adoration as Heavenly Father. I have heard talks where only Heaven Father was spoken about and not ONE mention of a prophet. Those are the talks that give me the most inspiration, not talks about a recollection of a martyrdom. That is history and I can read that online or e gads go to the jail and read the story myself. My biggest thing is that Joseph, Brigham - Gordon B. Hinckley should not be given the same type of love, adoration, and respect as we do our Heavenly Father, and don't put them as his equal because they are not. I don't worship Joseph Smith, I worship Heavenly Father.
