As far as 'clown suites' go, we have the responsibility to pray about things and receive confirming revelation concerning it. We don't or at least shouldn't do anything blindly. If we don't pray about this sort of thing then we deserve to wear clown suites! I SO agree with Nate on the WoW. I obey because it's a commandment & I try to do the whole thing, without excuses. Sometimes I say "I'm lds" that usually ends any discussion. But the other day I had a situation. I took my son to a neurologist who has prescribed the lowest amount of dexadrine for him. I don't normally tell people this because it causes such a controversy! Its a narcolepsy/a.d.d. thing and we've gone thru ALL the tests. The question of caffeine came up with the Dr. and I said, we don't use caffeine were lds. He looked at me like I was out of my mind and said, you won't use caffeine but you'll give your son dexadrine!? I just stutered a bit and said we'll it's our beliefs and you're giving him dexadrine, not me. He just shook his head and said, "What ever" I was shaken by the science of the doctors office! I felt ashamed of myself for not being more bold, but I don't know what else I could have said. I just hope that later he might have thought about it and realized it's a spiritual issue.

Where Do You Think The Two Witness Come From ?
Rosewood replied to Chanteemomof6's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I love Elder Bednar, he's so great! I've also heard that they were suppose to be members of the Twelve; "Special witnesses". Traveler, I thought the witnesses came at the beginning of the war over there & helped hold off the armies. Then they get killed & are raised 3 1/2 days later, then 7 yrs of clean-up. It's so confusing. And it doesn't help that I can never find my resources. I listen to a lot of talks on tape or on BYU broadcasting, but that way I can't reference anything! -
I gotta love this guy!

Nate, I agree, that's also what I have read. In the early years of the church the tongue of angles or Adamic was sometimes spoken when it was appropriate. It's still considered one of the gifts of tongues but almost never heard of any more. The ability to learn foreign languages quickly or even instantly is more common these days, because thats whats needed. Some amazing experiences have been documented of Elders presenting lessons, prayers or reading scriptures to people perfectly in a language they have never spoken before. Isn't God amazing?

I found this the other day while I was researching a Church approved site if anyone is interested. http://www.fairwiki.org/index.php/Was_Jesu...rist_married%3F

Nate, I'm not familiar with your refrences. I don't believe everything that has ever been put into print is considered scripture or is even true. I'll research it. However, I definately don't believe that Joseph Fielding Smith considered the body of Christ swine! BenRaines is right about speculation. Somethings should be handled with reverance when considered.

I agree with CK. Also why would it be a big secret in the church. Whats the point? Our church has never been shy about shocking the world with doctrine or revelations. I don't see anything in section 132 that states Christ was married. Christ gave us the scriptures to direct us, not visa versa. I think it would have been very irresponsible of Jesus to marry and have children knowing he was going to killed soon. Wasn't polygamy illeagle in His time? Celestialgirl, what makes Ogden Kraut an authority? Wasn't he a polygamist?

I haven't had a chance to read all the posts, but CONGRATULATIONS ON CHOOSING HOME SCHOOL! I've raised 4 teenagers and lived to see the fruits of my labor. Home school was the best choice I made. About seminary; somethings up. Trust her instincts, don't make her go, but make her do it at home. Those were the best hours of our schooling experience. I wouldn't trade them for the world. I made our older son go to Mutual when he didn't want to go and it turned out there was stuff going on with the "active" kids that shouldn't have been. It was very bad and he wasn't anxious to talk about it. Remember, Joseph Smith was 14 when he had the First Vision.

Thanks PC, that was bothering me too. I have family that is Jewish and I know that there are different denominations (?) so maybe that answers the attitude thing. Maybe it bothered me because I don't like our church being judged by what a few odd balls do.

I love the D&C, but I don't think I've read it front to back in many yrs. because I study by subject. & I'm weak in church history. My favorite way to study is with the seminary study manual. Another fav. way is looking up every foot note. " " " is outlining each verse (more or less a summary) Just reading alone makes my mind drift. & I don't need much encouragment in that department. The BYU channel has great study forums on all the standard works. I watch them on line. They help me get an over view before I start study on that section.

So, Ajax, are you threatening to leave us? I mean if we don't stop being boring?

Has Anyone Seen The Documentary - What The Bleep Do We Know?
Rosewood replied to boyando's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I saw it and I enjoyed it. I don't think of it as science though, just food for thought. Did anyone see the 3 part Nova series on the string theory? I really liked that one. -
All I know, other than the scriptures is Jesus the Christ by Talmage ch. 23, plus the great notes at the end of the chptr. I could only find the audio file on lds.org.

Doesn't it just feel wrong to you? You never know what God had in store for her. Challenges are what make us grow. I wouldn't be able to do it. I wouldn't want to do it.

Riverdude, I missed your earlier comment until Serg mentioned it. If you're still here, exactly what part of LDS do you believe in?

Actually I saw an edited version from Clean Films so I didn't see the whole thing. I did, however, notice the same doctrinal issues mentioned by CK and Nate. The Satan was really creepy but I understood exactly what Mel was depicting and it worked for me even though it was X-file-ish. The depiction of the Passion of Christ is steeped in history and rich in Catholic tradition. They've been doing it for hundreds of years and it goes to their very heart. People feel deeply about it. And for that reason I appreciate the movie. I am so happy that it was made. My choice about R-rated movies is my personal choice, and because of the choice it gives me great pleasure and I have received personal blessings from it. Even though I know I will never reach perfection in this life time except through Christ, I rejoice when I have the opportunity of my own free will to demonstrate my love for Him and my gratitude to Him. I can do this thing and so I do because there are so many other things I don't do or can't do.

Don't see R-RATED MOVIES OR vulgar videos or participate in any entertainment that is immoral, suggestive or pornographic." He doesn't say that R-rated movies ARE pornographic; it doesn’t qualify them at all. Is the passion a movie? Yes. Is it R rated? Yes. Many people in the world have been crucified, many tortured, many betrayed. That's not the part of the atonement that benefits me. I feel the movie encourages a vision of a weak helpless dead Christ, not a living all powerful redeemer. It doesn't strike me as a testimony builder or a perfect portrayal of history nor was doctrinally accurate. We don't use the cross on top or our spire because we don't feel it's a good representation of who we worship. It doesn't have to be 100% accurate, but it does have to be 100% not inaccurate. Would I ever go see an R-rated movie? Well, I'd need a better reason than I've had so far.

Sorry about being agressive, I get a little carried away. I'm very passionate (get it?) We're responsable for our own choices and we can always use scripture to justify whatever we want to do. I just believe you're really streching. The Prophet said don't. I choose to stay on this side of the line. In the for the strength of youth pamphlet I believe they were saying sometines we shouldn't watch PG-13 or PG movies because they're not always apropriate, not that sometimes R is ok. But of course, it is always left to our agency isn't it? I don't think all these words are going to change any of our minds on this one. I LOVE war movies. I haven't watched one that was unedited in a long time. I miss some movies, but my heart feels light. Thats the trade off I made. One of the first things I learned that stands out to me is; if any part of a true false question is false, then the answer is false. To me that applies to most things.

6 And after many days an angel of the Lord appeared unto Adam, saying: Why dost thou offer sacrifices unto the Lord? And Adam said unto him: I know not, save the Lord commanded me. So Mel Gibson is now our difinative authority on Christ? He's the one we're suppose to go to to learn about our Savior because he has a more perfect perspective than the prophets? Oh, why didn't you say so in the first place? So if it was Adam's daughter's birthday and she really wanted that firstling the Lord would understand; He would say why deny her the experience just to follow the letter of the law? So if your wife realizes she truely loves the hunk next door your ok with her consumating her love because why stand on formalities when a wonderful experience shouldn't be denied. And after all; God is Love, right?

Ezra Taft Benson, “To the ‘Youth of the Noble Birthright,’ ” Ensign, May 1986, 43 lds.org "not to pollute your minds . . . Don't see R-rated movies or vulgar videos or participate in any entertainment that is immoral, suggestive or pornographic." D&C 58:18 And to judge his people by the testimony of the just, and by the assistance of his counselors, according to the laws of the kingdom which are given by the prophets of God. D&C 1: 14 And the arm of the Lord shall be revealed; and the day cometh that they who will not hear the voice of the Lord, neither the voice of his servants, neither give heed to the words of the prophets and apostles, shall be cut off from among the people;

Well for Heavens sake! You lived in Coarsgold. What year was that and were you active at Church because we may have been up here then and it's the same ward. Your mom lived near the Veater ranch. The casino is taking over the area now, which I guess you know. Boy this was off the subject, but fun to know. Thanks, both of you.

Our seminary meets at 6:30 am. It takes most of us from 30 - 45mins to get there, but were right across from the hi school. I sub sometimes, but the kids are a little groggy. What were your favorite sem. lessons like; the ones that were fun or spiritually enlightening?
-
I understand what you are saying. Our aggression against terrorist is justified. The ignorant hysteria toward all Muslims isn't. Certain sectors of the media encourage the fanaticism because it pays. My concern is the unjustified self righteous anger that threatens the innocent, not the guilty.
-
PC, I realy have to agree with you on this. Mike Savage especially, but there are others. I've been a big talk radio/Christian radio fan for yrs, but in the last yr I listen less and less because of the anger that is generated. I guess it increases ratings, but contention turns my radio off! I used to hear it only on the left, but the right is no different anymore. I think the feeling of anger is seductive to some people. It makes them feel powerful, thats why mobs can be so dangerous. This is exactly how it began with the Nazis; the idea that our way of thinking is better and yours is dangerous (or distructive to us). We have to be careful to not get exactly the same attitude about them that we say they have about us. I knew a racist man who use to say, "there are blacks and then there are n---" in an attempt to justify his way of thinking. I see the same thing about to happen with the Muslims and some of the very loud media. I don't know what to do about it though. Pray I guess.
