  1. Thanks, CK; now I'm going to quit mashing these buttons on my keyboard, cut on the light, and cream some 'taters for supper.. . . :)
  2. You are not using Personal Ancestry File? You can download it free from Familysearch.org. It is much easier than trying to build your own database on Office. edited to add: The reason I directed you to Rootsweb.com was to look at their Family Tree project, WorldConnect, so that you could share your genealogy, as you had expressed a desire to do. If you are not using a Genealogy software package such as PAF or FamilyTreeMaker, etc., to organize your database, you will not be able to create a GEDCOM file that will be useable in a Family Tree project such as WorldConnect. Rootsweb and Ancestry are owned by the same company, hence the links to Ancestry subscriber-only information. However, Rootsweb itself strives to maintain independent and free data sources. I hope this information is helpful to you.
  3. I have already noted that I admire some lawyers - they are intelligent, ethical human beings. While it takes a certain amount of intelligence to pass the bar exam, some lawyers do stupid things, making them appear to be "less intelligent". I have no desire to label all lawyers as stupid.
  4. That's the problem with electronic voting. No paper trail. What happened to the other 18,000 registered here? But it is also the work of defending the Constitution, personal rights, and the pursuit of justice. As stated earlier, there are some lawyers I admire. Seems like a few of the GA's hold a JD. :)
  5. You are one good guy!
  6. Look Up, JD, you missed my solution above.
  7. You've got it right, pam; I think Dr T was playing. YIKES, I hope so, anyway!!! I wouldn't get an apartment with the bishop - unless i was the bishop's wife!
  8. I'll go Yeah, that'll go over big with your sister! I may be able to talk her into going if I can convince her there will be something there she will like. Like me?? Maybe you could convince her to go with PAM and leave you at home with all the kids.
  9. 'cause his wife is a REALLY good cook!
  10. B-b-b-but Pale, I gotta EAT! I know, I know, get an appt with the Bishop! edited to fix quote function
  11. No problem, Jason. I did sound rather self-righteous, didn't I? When a person discovers a soul-felt (empirical + spiritual) truth , and then denies that truth, I see no way for him to be happy. One of the happiest/most joyful/ at peace women I have ever known was the mother of 7 children -- and a Baptist who loved the Lord; she lived her life according to the spiritual truths she knew. No, I don't think Latter Day Saints have an exclusive corner on joy, by any means. (And my example is not intended to exclude non-Christians.)
  12. I'm not sure I understand. Rootsweb gave you listings of what? You shouldn't have to buy anything at Rootsweb. It is free.
  13. I'm sorry, Snow. I misunderstood the misunderstanding. It appears I did all of this confessing for nothing. And yes, I agree, there is certainly nothing inherently wrong in practicing law. There are some lawyers I even admire. Thanks for clarifying the source. edited to add: Gee, I thought the whole board rotated around ME!
  14. Anabelli, It sounds to me that the information you looked at before was not on the IGI. Try doing the search again but this time, in that grey left sidebar, do not click the International Genealogical Index. Instead, click the top button for All Resources. This search results in information from several different sources, not just church records. If the information is listed on a Pedigree Resource File or Ancestral File, it is a family tree that has been submitted by someone for sharing. If it is from an independent Family History Web Site, yes, that information can be changed or the entire file deleted by the person who submitted it. There are several options in sharing your genealogy. 1. You can contribute a data file (GEDCOM) to Familysearch by clicking on the Share tab at the top of the blue bar and follow the prompts under Share My Genealogy then How do I submit my genealogy? This information will then go into the Pedigree Resource File. (You cannot add corrections to it once you have submitted it, at this time.) 2. You can click on the Collaboration E-Mail Lists, look for the family surname under Search E-Mail Lists. If a list or two exists for that name, browse through them (Click Join/Properties) to see if there is one that applies to your specific line. If no list exists for your family name, you can Create a New E-Mail List. Doing this will put you in touch with other people who are researching the same family or name. 3. You can wait until the new Church system is instituted; with the new program, you will be able to go to Familysearch.org and type in your information, and be able to correct it or add sources to it later. Hopefully, this will be up and running within the next year. 4. You can go to a public site like Rootsweb.com and upload your file into their WordConnect tree. (The link is in the right hand column under Family Trees section.) Click on the WorldConnect Project Main Page and read through the Getting Started and Help pages. You will be able to update this file with corrections and other edits. I hope I have given clear answers. If you would like to PM the name of who you are looking for, or those gg grandparents with the wrong county location, I'd be glad to see what I can find.
  15. On another thread, Elphaba was accused of having been a lawyer. Let me correct this misconception, which stems from an even earlier posting episode. I sincerely apologize to Elphaba for causing someone to think she is or ever has been a lawyer. What started in an attempt at light-heartedness ended with Elphaba's inference that I was too stupid to be a lawyer, and I refuted that, but never came right out and made the statement "I Am Not A Lawyer." Well, I am not a lawyer, but I adamantly insist I am NOT too stupid to be one. (I am probably just stupid enough. The stupidity level of lawyers is well known - I can cite examples if you wish.) I never claimed to be the smartest person in the room either. However, when law school was a real choice placed before me, I chose to raise my babies instead, much to the horror of my feminist friends of the 70's. To them, I was throwing away my potential, and relegating myself to be an unpaid toilet-scrubber. To them, I had betrayed the cause. This was before I joined the church. (I shudder to think -- had I not made that decision, I likely would be a left wing political activist attorney , working for the likes of Al Gore or Hillary or Al Franken ) While I'm clearing things up, I have also been accused of being Snow's groupie. Nope. If I am anybody's groupie, it is The Traveler . (Sorry Pale, and JD!) And - I don't live in Alaska, either. Never have, and probably never will. My screen name is the homophonic result of not receiving correct or well-understood answers to questions on the first try. Have a great day, everyone! (edited for grammar)
  16. I made a mistake here. Instead of the above sentence, I should have said the more general, "There is always hope that they will do just that." Instead I used "We", inferring that I consider myself to be a knower of truth and of being in a state of that joy. That is not what I think, nor am I in that state. Ever pressing forward, but far from being there. I am myself one of the "they"s, in various areas of truth.
  17. No problem; I keep an account with Western Union just for such occasions.
  18. SF, Did your son get home okay? Shout out when you have the time, and know we are thinking of you all. --AL
  19. is that the Oreck I hear?
  20. LOL, YES,we actually eat what we preserve! Unfortunately, we haven't done this for a couple of years (more than a couple, um 4?) My tomato plants are still growing, but have yet to produce (mainly due to neglect during the dry spell) but looks like I may yet get a green pepper or two. I just had a small container garden this year, and not very successful at it. There have been things distracting us from maintaining our food storage during this same time period, and I sure wonder if this is part of the evil forces working at us -- we continue to pull from the front part of the supply (oldest) while not adding replacements to the back of the shelf. NOT the way to stay prepared. I need to pay more attention! Thanks for reminding me. :) My absolute favorite canning project - black raspberry jam. Yum yum.
  21. You are so thoughtful, Dr. T! Kudos!
  22. hi Annabelli! :) Yes. You can go to the FamilySearch.org website and search for the person. To find if a baptism record exists, you will need to Register (requires your membership number and confirmation date), and then Sign On. (There are links to do this at the right on top of the blue bar.) Once you have signed on, click the Search tab in the center top of the page. Then in the grey left sidebar, click International Genealogical Index. Enter the Name and Region, Country, State and click Search. You can enter more information, such as Event - Birth, if you like. But for the first search, I would just leave the Event selection to All. If you get pages of names for results, then back arrow to search page and put in more information to narrow it down. Duplicates have not yet been merged, so your person may show up a dozen times. Or not at all. If you have difficulty with this, please PM me with the name and date of birth or death, where they lived, and I am happy to search for you. Nonmembers may also use the site freely, but church membership information will not be displayed with their results. And, the records of living persons are not available at all. Good luck!
  23. That's good news, Berry. Listen up! All right, where is that one rich guy on this board who has the private jet? NOW is a good time to come forward!
  24. harumph <just clearing my throat, folks>Pardon me, please. Thank you, Traveler. It has been said <unknown source> "Love is not something you fall into; it is something you grow." The attraction, or "chemistry", or "Love at first sight" is simply the seed. Love watered long with honor, righteousness, and humility results in joy unfeigned. Traveler, there is nothing brutal about the truth you speak. Those who abandon truth pay for that act with unhappiness; there are those of that group who may appear to be happy, and there are those who deny truth who are convinced they are happy; but true joy they do not know, and in that comparison they are and will be unhappy, until they change their attitude. We always have hope that they will do just that. totally edited
