  1. I think if you go to the bishop looking for help and he doesn't have the ability he kinda needs to seek consul from people who can help. Otherwise it is a bit pointless and your issue isn't going to get solved and I am sure he will feel frustrated as I genuinely believe the vast majority of bishops are good people who want to help. Seeking consul is obviously very different to gossiping or sharing info that doesn't need to be shared. If this is what you feel has happened I would suggest you say to him dude I think you were out of order and if he ignores you go further up.
  2. Thanks!
  3. You know when you go to confession or speak to a catholic priest? That's confidential. In the case of confession a confidentiality that is maintained no matter what you confess. Speak to an Anglican priest, yep that is confidential but in certain cases of abuse and illegal actions can be broken. Speak to an LDS bishop they may say it is completely confidential they may not but it isn't in any way confidential. They can tell any one they please. RS president, elders quram, stake president, their wife and possible the milk man. They may also tell no one. I was like you shared something really personal with the bishop after being prompted by him I had gone to speak to him about service opportunities in family services. To his credit he never said it was confidential but next week RS president makes an appointment to speak about it. There was no ill intentions but it is a bit cringe worthy knowing that my problem was being shared around.
  4. Lucky you Anatess
  5. It is the two tier system of the church. As an investigator you are love bombed everyone wants to be your friend offer lifts to church, invites to activities etc etc. But as soon as you are dunked people move onto the next investigator. I don't even think it is a conscious thing, perhaps it is just part of the missionary part of the church. I also find life long members are much friendlier with other TBM's than they are with converts. It's like they fear we will rub our germs on them. I think also to get the invites etc one has to be the happy clappy mormon that is out going etc. I have seen sobbing people ignored and people with issues avoided, it's like we can't have our happy bubble threatened by unhappy people
  6. I wonder if my housemate will ever learn how to flush the toilete
  7. I wonder who thought I wouldn't notice
  8. I think it is funny and full of satire., Does annoy me slightly that mormonism seems like a soft target, imagine if they tried to do it about Islam! People wanted to blow the dude up who drew muhammed
  9. The musical that is. Probably been discussed before but when I searched there were thousands of results. Personally I find it helrious if a tad heavy on the sterotypes.
  10. If he has suddenly started like this perhaps he was chastised for not doing a great job before. Reading the other thread and their extreme reaction sounds like they need to find the middle gorund.
  11. Yeah I agree with she needs to see a therapist I would say a non LDS one at first then an LDS one to join what she has learnt in therapy with her faith. I have seen simular thought processes in people that have been abused sexually as children so it may be somethign you want to approach with her or not, I don't know how helpful that would eb right now. But your wife needs help sooner rather than later.
  12. We are having the Christ's baptisim at the begining. I was wondering if this is appropriate
  13. Yeah that is the one I have found
  14. Hi, I need a video to be played at my baptisim I'd like it to be along the lines of conversion, us all being Gods children etc does any one have any ideas?
  15. Genuine question does the priesthood make you more worthy or a better person in heavenly fathers eyes or is it just that these things need to be done so men are ordained to do them? I keep shifting my opinion I can see where your coming from Wingnut if a woman didn't want priesthood she wouldn't seek it but does that equally mean not all men should be ordained that it should be something that is earned like in other churches? I am in favour of this but I am sure some one will come and shift my mind again
  16. I do wonder if women did get ordained from the group how many would keep the priesthood after they see how much work and responsibility comes with it. Not saying women don't have responsibility in the church obviously. Which brings me to another thought I personally think if everyone could recieve priesthood it could end up being a pick and choose thing and could take away from the holynes of it. The grass is always greener on the other side.
  17. Ha I like it! I don't think women will ever get ordained in the church as there is no need. I am noit putting it very well but in the 70's when the church let black men hold the priesthood that had to happen because the church was denying them their 'birth right' for want of a better word; denying someone something based on the colour is wrong, in my opinion anyway. Women aren't being discriminated against by not holding the priesthood as they hold different roles no lesser or more important. Any more than I am being discriminated against because I am too short to do the high jump but I am way good at limbo. I think people think people think equality means people are the same, they couldn't be more wrong
  18. So basically women shouldn't hold the priesthood because men are too lazy to keep active with out it? Wow. Also surely that goes against agency, if you are only doing something because you are expected to do it, that turns the situation into a pressgang rather than faith
  19. No I should take the oldbats bit back but the ignorant bit is still true. If you say something through lack of knowledge you are ignorant. If I claimed Muslims believe pink elephants rule over Allah I would expect to be called ignorant.
  20. I don't want it to be anything it is just a different way of saying something that confussed me/felt was a bit odd
  21. I am sorry but how is people choose to be mentally ill, immigrants are taking over and homeless people are willful sinner an OK thing to say?
  22. Well may be it is a cultural thing as I have never heard it said here and would get at least a raised eyebrow from people round here
  23. Dahlia said "usally the blacks" which to me isn't OK and I showed the post to some of my BME friends and they thought it was odd way to refer to people
  24. Yes people refer to themselves as black people don't say the blacks like their a whole diff species any more.
  25. You're making assumptions. I said I didn't want to hold the priesthood so their action isn't what I believe in; I respect people that stand up and take action even when it is likely to be detrimental to themselves. Good qoute bt Voltaire "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it" Also who still refers to black people as blacks any more? Have we transported back to the 60's by mistake
