Hi and welcome! :)

Hi and welcome! :) I've never heard of MA&DB before. What is it? Anyway, welcome!

This is something that I'd love my husband to work on. I know he loves me but I'd love for him to find ways to express it other than say it back when I say it first. His own family never did anything like that and I think they all just took each other for granted. Even lesser holidays like Father's Day or Mother's Day go unnoticed by them. I can't blame him for not learning it when he was a kid, but I can still wish that he'd find creative ways to express his love. For example, usually for Christmas or my birthday he gets me a video game that he happens to like too. That way he can play it as well. Some men just don't have a romantic bone in their body. *LOL*

After reading 1 Nephi 14 yesterday, I was trying to figure something out and I am hoping that someone can either confirm my thoughts or point me in the right direction if I am off. :) 1 Nephi 14 talks about there being two churches. One is the church of Jesus and the other is referred to as "the great and abominable church" in this chapter. After reading it, my brain is leading me to think they are referring to the Catholic church as that great and abominable church. How did I reach this conclusion? Well, in verse 11 it mentions the church (compared to a whore) having "dominion over all the earth, among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people." The Catholic church did work hard to spread their teaching far and wide, over all people they came across. Also in verse 13, I think there is a reference to the Crusades there. "And it came to pass that I beheld that the great mother of abominations did gather together multitudes upon the face of all the earth, among all the nations of the Gentiles, to fight against the Lamb of God." The Catholic church did persecute many who opposed it. Am I correct or way off base?

I borrowed a copy of the Book of Mormon from a friend until I can actually get to the ward and ask the bishop for one of my own. And I was reading between calls at work. (My job is cool and I can get away with reading at work and not get in trouble.) I just started at the beginning yesterday and will keep on going. Well I happened to come across two verses yesterday that kind of hit me like a ton of bricks. 18 For he is the same yesterday, to-day, and forever; and the way is prepared for all men from the foundation of the world, if it so be that they repent and come unto him. 19 For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round. As I read those, something kind of came over me. I am not sure how to explain it other than to use the "burning in the bosom" explanation. I've been seeking for as long as I can remember. It's nice to finally have confirmation that my labor was not in vain. :)

:) I majored in music education back when I was in college in Georgia. I was 5 classes from my degree when my ex and I got pregnant with my daughter and I had to drop out of school. I regret not going back to finish that degree, but I have since graduated from a different school with a degree in criminal justice. Sadly I couldn't complete my music degree online and I couldn't take the time off of work to go back to school. So I chose criminal justice, which I could do completely online.

I think that many of us arefmailiar with the different roles that women and men have in the church. But it is so defined at home? Are families who have stay-at-home dads and working moms looked down upon because their roles are not traditional? This is a question from my husband actually, because we have plans for him to be a stay home dad when this baby comes. Honestly, I make more than he does and it's financially smarter for him to quit work instead of me. He wonders if he will be shunned as a house husband instead of a working man by people in the church.

I remember from the word of wisdom that tea and coffee and such are not permitted. I cannot remember the exact wording but it goes something like "hot drinks are not for the belly" or something like that. My question is on this... Is it just the caffeine that's a no-no or is it something else? And are herbal teas allowed as long as they are caffeine free? The same goes for sodas. Can a person drink a caffeinated soda or not? (As a side note, the caffeine thing is not an issue for me since I am allergic to it and avoid caffeine like the plague. But I am a bit of a decaffeinated tea addict. Same goes with herbal teas.)

This is a bit off topic, but what is this MADB that I keep seeing all over the boards?

Hello brother! I too am returning after a long 10 year period of inactivity. Sounds like you've been doing lots of thinking and studying. Way to go on that front! :)

*falls over laughing* Hee hee! So true!

I don't think it will end at that time, but I could be wrong. Still, that should be an interesting year with all sorts of people running around talking about the end coming.

Congrats Doug! :) And welcome!

Definitely. Waking up usually isn't a problem for me husband. He's usually "early to bed and early to rise" due to his typically early morning work schedule. But he worked the late shift on Saturday night and didn't get in until super late.

I am quite familiar with the Jitterbug, Garden Girl. :) My grandmother was one heck of a dancer! Pity I didn't get some of her dance genetics. *LOL* I can play the flute with the best of them but can't get my feet to move properly.

*LOL* Y'all are amusing!

Due to him not getting home until nearly 2AM the night before we overslept and didn't quite make it in. I was quite bummed out that we didn't make it to town for church. But next week for sure! He doesn't have to work next Saturday night so there's no chance of us missing it.

Well I talked to my husband about it. He's very skeptical but he said he'd actually go with me tomorrow when I go. I was rather surprised but yet pleased at the same time. He said he wanted to go observe to see what it was like. I just pray that he will keep an open mind while there.

Hi and welcome! I was Southern Baptist for 17 years before becoming LDS. So I totally understand where you're coming from. :)
-
Thanks! I will definitely be talking with my husband tonight and going to the new ward on Sunday morning. I look forward to it!~ :)

I know I can't be the only person who is a member and is married to a non-member. Can anyone out there give me some suggestions of how to bring the gospel and spirit into your home without making your spouse feel like he or she is being compromised? What are some subtle ways to handle that sort of situation?

I truly can't remember reverence being a problem in my previous ward. Then again, I saw in the front row every week to make sure that I could hear. I'm a nerd like that. Did the same thing in school too.
