  1. monie, as i'm sure all ignorant people think, i'm not trying to be ignorant. :) i'm just asking for a verse in the bible or book of mormon that says, "no there is not only one God; there are many." where in the book of mormon can i read there are many Gods, with Gods before them? book of mormon is straight from God to man, right? so we don't need to check other ancient lamanite or nephite or jaredite writings from their scholars to find out what is really being said. the book of mormon isn't missing any of those plain and precious truths, is it? i mean, why would it be? so, where in the book of mormon can i read there is more than one God? i know lds believe in many Gods, but where does the book of mormon teach it? anyway, sorry about that rant.
  2. lol. oh my goodness. the sons of El? lol, what is this, superman? are we discussing an episode of smallville here? you're quoting US presidents as if they're any kind of authority on the bible. and the verse i was quoting was john 4:24- "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." where in the reading of that verse do you not see 'God is [A] spirit...'? anyway, i think it would be better if i just not listen to anything else you have to say. obviously this conversation will go nowhere. but thanks for the laughs. :)
  3. i'm not saying there are three persons, but neither do i see those three persons as three Gods. as i understand(limited as i am), the son is neither the father nor the holy spirit, the father is neither the son nor the holy spirit, and the holy spirit is neither the father nor the son; but all three are one God. as to physical nature, scriptures refer the father as a spirit.
  4. what do you mean? almost everyone goes to a heaven. just not everybody gets to live with God.
  5. i just don't see them as seperate Gods. i see a father son and holy spirit, but i only see one God; not three.
  6. i don't know if the lds church believes that the RCC is the great and abominable church, but it does believe all other churchs are wrong. lds believe that all other churchs are "wrong; and... that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: 'they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.'" so, i don't think it's just the RCC. all churchs other than the lds are wrong.
  7. rev. 1:6 says "...And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." i think if i'm reading this as you are, then it's ... and [jesus] made us kings and priests unto God and his[God's]Father; to him[?] be glory and dominion for ever and ever. amen. first, why do we need to be kings and priests unto God's Father? second... well, i'm not going to tell you how you have to read the scritpure. i'm gonna just explain how i'm reading it and that should be good enough. verses 5 and 6 are one sentence starting near the end of 5 and ending with 6. the main subject in this sentence is Jesus Christ, as stated at the beginning of verse 5. when the pronouns 'his' and 'him' are being used in those verses, it's referring IMO to Jesus Christ. so, when it says "...unto God and his Father..." i'm reading the 'his' as Jesus Christ. i'm reading the scriptures you've given me and i don't see anywhere in the context of those scriptures the teaching that there is more than one God. i'm not saying that there isn't a father son and holy spirit, but i do say that those three are not three seperate Gods; scriptures say they are all God. you're telling me that the sons of God and lucifer are all Gods? i didn't get that impression when i read it. where is the verse that says there is more than one God? there are plenty of verses that say there is only one God. i understand that the word one can be used to mean in unity and purpose, but i don't think that is always the meaning of it when referring to there being one God. but hey, maybe this is me be close-minded.
  8. Ram, yes there are verses like the one you mention in john 17. i'm not saying that there aren't verses that can be read and interpreted the way that you see it. all i'm saying though, is don't draw your conclusions based on a few verses. over and over and over again the Bible teachs that there is only one God. it never says that there is more than one God. it never says there is a group of Gods in charge of all of us. but i see where you're coming from. there is a lot of history that the Bible has come through. it's been written by so many different people and in so many different languages and has been translated from copies of copies of copies. there are no originals; none that i'm aware of anyway. so, where else can we look? how about the book of mormon. what does the book of mormon say? sure, the book of mormon was written by different people spanning hundreds of years. but it was all translated by one guy by the power of God. it's teachings have not been corrupted by copies of copies of translations of translations, right? it's my understanding that God gave j. smith the words, j. smith read the words to his scribes, and his scribes wrote them down. when it was recorded correctly, the next passage was given him. so, how many Gods does the book of mormon say there are? how many times in the book of mormon does it say 'father son and holy ghost, which are/is one God?' and are you really serious about rev. 1:5-6? it is not saying that God has a father. "...unto God and his[Jesus'] Father..." not "unto God and his[God the Father's] Father..." i mean honestly, could you try to squeeze that in there any tighter?
  9. which verses contradict the trinity? i see verses that can be read and understood and interpreted as Jesus and the Father being seperate personages, but how many say that they are not God? How many verses are there that say that there is only one God? after that, how many verses are there that say that there is more than one God? then, how many verses that say that God wasn't always a God? the idea of the tinity teachs that there is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; not three Gods but one Eternal God. i think it is as easy for me to believe in the trinity as it is for LDS to believe in an eternal regression of gods, not one being eternally a God.
  10. What about people of other faiths who KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that their faith is true? What about people who are against the church who KNOW that in their hearts that the lds church isn't true? these other people believe their god, or the spirit is telling them these things, right? what does their 'knowing' get them?
  11. it's amazing to see all these different answers. i think this should be the easiest question to answer and yet one of the most difficult to live. of course God would be number one and should be number one in everyone's life.
  12. pushka, you said: "Here is where non LDS are confused regarding LDS doctrine of the nature of God. You state here that God was once a man and went thru his mortal experience as we are doing, and that he married and fathered our spirits in Heaven..." i didn't say that. j. smith did. that's what the lds church believes. "as man is, God once was; as God is, man may become." it's along those lines. lds believe God was once a man. i'm not referring to jesus, and neither was j. smith. it's referring to God the Father. in this case, it's not me who is confused. you either read something that someone wrote that was a lie, of you were misled with false information, or you just didn't understand the explanation. i, and i'm sure a lot of members on this board, can give you references for j. smith and other prophets teaching God the Father was not always a God. just let me know if you're interested. :)
  13. haha:). ok. lol, read the whole psalm. the context is obviously referring to people who are placed in a position of judgement. i think you're making a mistake in picking one verse out of a chapter or book and taking it out of the context it was meant. but, if that's what you've been taught to do, then who am i to stop you? ----- also, when you say "we are gods" what do you mean by that? are you saying that we are mini gods?
  14. you know, at the end of old yeller(sp?), the little boy shot his dog out of love. should we do that?
  15. what evidences? we know the places where the stuff in the bible actually happened. do we know where the stuff in the book of mormon happened? i don't understand, and i know it's not all about me :), how there could be these huge civilizations and wars and battles and have no evidences for them, and not even know where they happened. the bible has maps in the back of it that show biblical places. do you think the book of mormon will soon have a map in the back of it that shows book of mormonical(?:)) places?
  16. a-train, thank you. iggy was really starting to confuse me. i knew lds believe that heavenly father is married and has a heavenly wife, but she was telling me that that's not true. even though she does believe it. :)
  17. so, we have heavenly parents, but they are not married?
  18. a-train, ok. i was just responding because the earlier post made it sound like christians today just pretend they believe in God. i know that not to be true.
  19. i don't understand. the quote you gave me says it's not taught but i showed you where it is taught. it's taught to primary kids. "the official Proclamation on the Family affirms that each human being is a beloved son or daughter of heavenly parents..." i'm assuming that one of the heavenly parents is heavenly father, and the other is a heavenly mother. if that's what the official proclamation on the family teachs, how does the church not teach that there is a heavenly mother? i don't see where i'm supposed to click to read it.
  20. iggy, here is a link to a primary lesson for the kids. LDS.org - Primary Chapter Detail - I Am a Child of God the lesson is entitled "I Am a Child of God." the reference is “Lesson 3: I Am a Child of God,” Primary 2: Choose the Right A, 11." in this lesson, the primary kids are taught of heavenly mother. why teach it to the kids if it is not church doctrine?
  21. iggy, i wouldn't say it if it wasn't taught. i know for a fact that it is taught. are you saying that it is not taught? do you believe in it? if you do, why? was it taught to you? now i'm just curious.
  22. francine, go to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints there, you can highlight "Gospel Library" and then click on "Scriptures." there it will let you choose between the old testament, new testamant, book of mormon, doctrine and covenants, pearl of great price, and also give you links to the lds study helps.
  23. Drew, "This is one of the great differences between the restored gospel and the traditional mainstream gospel that has been handed down through the apostasy. We affirm, and do know, that God is the same today, yesterday, and forever. We know and do affirm that He speaks with man. It is easy to pretend that you believe in a god who spoke to people 2000 years ago or more." really? you think christians are just pretending? you don't think that christians believe God still speaks to them? maybe they don't have prophets, but why would they need them? God speaks to the heart of each individual believer.
  24. anthony, sorry. i do now recall him mentioning that a few times. i guess i just skimmed over it and thus it did not store in my mind. are you lds? if you are, do you know of any archealogical(sp?) evidences that the church has come out with and formally claimed as true evidence of the book of mormon?
